When “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett (pictured above center) initially went public earlier this month with a tale of being attacked in Chicago by two racist Trump supporters, the president’s fiercest media and Hollywood critics ate up the story.

Celebrities immediately poured out their support for Smollett and used the story as yet another excuse to blast the president and anyone who supports him.

Smollett gave a fluff interview to ABC’s “Good Morning America” and recounted the attack by two men who yelled, “MAGA [Make America Great Again] country!” He also claimed they said homophobic and racist things while putting a noose around his neck.

The investigation into Smollett’s claims has now “shifted,” according to the Chicago Police Department.

New reports suggest Smollett may have staged the entire attack. He allegedly hired two Nigerian brothers, both extras on “Empire,” to carry out the attack and to go along with his story of a hate crime.

Right about now is when public figures in the media and in the entertainment industry should be apologizing for jumping the gun so quickly and going along with a dubious narrative.

Here are five celebs who blamed the president and his supporters for the attack — and who each owe apologies (that will likely never arrive).

1.) Rosie O’Donnell. She’s one of the few stars to go back and delete her initial reaction to the Smollett story.

“Unreal — love to Jussie,” she wrote in the tweet.

She added a middle finger emoji — before adding this lovely note: “To maga a**holes.”

2.) Billy Eichner. The comedian not only bought what Smollett was selling — he was so angered he said some vicious things about President Donald Trump and his supporters.

“Heartbroken and furious reading about the attack on @JussieSmollett,” wrote Eichner. “I want Trump and all MAGA lunatics to burn in hell.”

3.) Ellen Page. During an interview on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, actress Page (above left) actually tied the alleged Smollett attack to Vice President Mike Pence.

Page said she did not know Smollett personally but supported his story. She then proceeded to rant about the president and vice president and the feelings they inspire in people.

“Connect the dots. This is what happens,” said Page. “If you are in a position of power and you hate people and you want to cause suffering to them, you go through the trouble, you spend your career trying to cause suffering — what do you think is going to happen? Kids are going to be abused, and they’re going to kill themselves and people are going to be beaten on the street.”

4.) Rob Reiner. The director and actor (above right) has called Trump supporters racist in the past — so his reaction to the Smollett story was not much of a surprise.

“The horrific attack on Jussie Smollett has no place in a decent human loving society. Homophobia existed before Trump, but there is no question that since he has injected his hatred into the American bloodstream, we are less decent, less human, & less loving. No intolerance! No DT!” he tweeted.

5.) Cher. The entertainer sent out one of her typically incoherent tweets in response to the Smollett news.

While not everything she was saying was clear, it was obvious she believed Smollett and partly blamed the president.

“Jussie Smollett, ‘Empire’ Actor, Reportedly Attacked In Possible Hate Crime. NPR. VILLAINY, RACISM, HOMOPHOBIA, PROMOTED BY MOST INFAMOUS [clown in the world], IS THE POISON THAT KILLS [America]. WHITE ONLY IS NOT RIGHT. [America] IS PPL OF COLOR. [Praying] GOP GOES DOWN WITH SHIP djt,” she tweeted.

Cher owes an apology not only for this swift reaction — but also for these headaches she calls tweets.
