Father Is Teaching Flag-Kneeling Son to ‘Hate’ and ‘Disrespect Our Country’

Strong response here to a Cub Scout's actions in North Carolina

“Such a terrible way to raise children.”

“He’s been indoctrinated.”

“In my opinion, he was coached. Probably wanted their five minutes of fame! As a former den mother for the Cubs, I am so saddened to see this program being destroyed. The program is based on love of God and love of country!”

As these comments demonstrate, readers are angry, concerned, upset and disgusted over an incident that occurred in North Carolina earlier this week.

A 10-year-old Cub Scout decided to “take a knee” during the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at a City Council meeting in Durham, North Carolina — all while others watched in shock.

In a video that’s been circulating of the incident, the boy is seen dropping to one knee during the Pledge of Allegiance as all the other boys next to him stand appropriately and respectfully during the pledge.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, of course, popularized this so-called “method” of protest during the 2016 NFL season at the playing of the national anthem before professional football games.

“What I did was took a knee against racial discrimination,” the North Carolina boy, Liam Holmes, told reporters, “which is basically when people are mean to other people of different colors,” as Fox News “The Ingraham Angle” explained on Wednesday night to viewers.

Prior to the city council meeting, the 10-year-old — as it turned out — talked about all of this with his father, Scott Holmes, a local attorney, who later said he was “proud” of his son for what he did.

Readers and social media commenters don’t like what happened one bit.

And they’ve been sharing their outrage since.

Here are some additional comments — please share your own at the bottom of this article.

“Poor parenting. Dad was behind this. That is not what the Boy Scouts strive for. That is what is wrong with our society today — poor parenting.”

“He hasn’t been taught to respect the flag.”

“His dad craved the attention.”

“[He was] mimicking his parents, that’s all. He is too young to understand all of this yet. He may never, because of his parents’ beliefs.”

“A tree grows the way a twig is bent.”

“So sad. The patents are to be blamed for this. That’s where the hate starts at home. He is only a child.”

“In my opinion, he was disrespecting our country. All colors and races fight and die for our country. Pledging allegiance is affirming our American values of freedom and equality for all. The Pledge of Allegiance and standing for flag has nothing to do with discrimination — and everything to do with freedom and equality and honoring those who have given their lives for those beliefs! Shame on this father and son!”

“The Scouts’ motto is basically love of God and love of country! I believe this child was coached. Probably wanted five minutes of fame … So sad to see this successful program being destroyed because of politics!”

“My father, my husband, my brother, and my brother-in-law are all veterans. I find this behavior unfortunate and disrespectful to our flag, our country, and to all Americans. The boy should be taught the appropriate respect and procedure for the Pledge of Allegiance and what it truly means.”

“He’s been successfully indoctrinated to admire the actions of an unemployed football player.”

“We need to put a stop to this madness.”

“His father, a lawyer, should be teaching him positive ways he can express his concern for social issues.”
