Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is guilty of perpetuating the “fraudulent stereotype” of a “pot-smoking joy seeker” in her “pursuit of identity politics” to legalize marijuana — and that’s according to her own father.

Harris (pictured above) is one of the Democratic Party’s top 2020 presidential contenders.

She formally threw her hat into the ring to challenge President Donald Trump on January 27.

The senator’s Jamaican father, Donald Harris, is an economics professor at Stanford University.

He told Jamaica Global Online in a withering statement last week that his daughter’s recent remarks about marijuana legalization and her Jamaican heritage deeply wounded him.

“My dear departed grandmothers … as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not, with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics,” Donald Harris said.

“Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty,” he added.

Democrat Kamala Harris made waves last week when she told the New York City-based “The Breakfast Club” radio show that she “inhaled” marijuana in college.

“I have. And I inhaled. I did inhale,” Harris told the radio hosts during a largely jovial discussion. “It was a long time ago, but yes. I just broke news.”

One of the show’s hosts told Harris that some people “say you oppose legalizing weed.”

“That is not true. I joke about it, but half my family is from Jamaica. Are you kidding me?” Harris replied with a laugh. “I think it gives a lot of people joy. And we need more joy in the world.”

This statement, in particular, perpetuated the “fraudulent stereotype” the senator’s father rejected.

Harris co-sponsored the 2018 Marijuana Justice Act with one of her 2020 Democratic rivals, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) — even though she opposed marijuana legalization during her 2010 California attorney general campaign and her 2014 re-election campaign.

“Right now in this country people are being arrested, being prosecuted, and end up spending time in jail or prison, all because of their use of a drug that otherwise should be considered legal,” Harris said in a statement in May 2018.

“Making marijuana legal at the federal level is the smart thing to do. It’s the right thing to do. I know this as a former prosecutor and I know it as a senator,” Harris continued.

Although the senator now supports marijuana legalization, her former record as a prosecutor is causing her trouble.

During her five years as California’s attorney general, Harris helped send “at least 1,560 people” to “state prisons for marijuana-related offenses between 2011 and 2016,” according to data the Washington Free Beacon cited from OpenJustice and the California Department of Corrections.

The senator from California doubled down on her support for marijuana legalization in her new book, “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey.”

“Something else it’s past time we get done is dismantling the failed war on drugs — starting with legalizing marijuana,” Kamala Harris wrote.

“We need to legalize marijuana and regulate it,” Harris added. “And we need to expunge nonviolent marijuana-related offenses from the records of millions of people who have been arrested and incarcerated so they can get on with their lives.”
