Warm Heart in a Deep Freeze: Good Samaritan Pays for 70 Hotel Rooms for the Homeless

The group had been camping out in tents in Chicago

Homeless Americans on the south side of Chicago are being housed in a hotel to beat the freezing temperatures by an unnamed Good Samaritan.

If there is one thing about Americans, it’s that when things hit rock bottom, the best of us always rises to the top.

Jacqueline Rachev, a Salvation Army spokesperson, said they were about to move the group to a warming center.

But then they got the notice to send people to a hotel — and that the rooms were paid.

A Good Samaritan in Chicago is being praised for offering to pay for hotel rooms for 70 homeless people who were camped out in tents across the city as the cold temperatures blanketed the Midwest.

The offer came after the Chicago Fire Department confiscated nearly 100 propane tanks on Wednesday that had been given to the group to keep them warm.

The department acted after one of the propane tanks that were donated exploded.

Temperatures throughout the city of Chicago at the time plummeted to -22 F (-30 C). Salvation Army spokesperson Jacqueline Rachev states that city officials told the organization about their actions at the camp and that the Salvation Army was about to relocate the group to a warming center. It turns out the group had been camping in tents near Chicago’s University Village/Little Italy neighborhood.

Nearly 100 people had donated items to help keep this group warm, but these were confiscated by the fire department on Wednesday after one tank exploded, leaving the people with no way to keep warm.

As I said before, America shows up when there is a crisis.

Thank God these individuals are going to be able to share their blessing in a nice hotel room tonight.
