The state of Virginia appears to be straining to outdo New York in the most horrifying way. Some lawmakers want to annihilate unborn souls — and even, potentially, tiny babies right after they’re born.

Democrats in the Virginia statehouse on Monday presented a bill that would allow abortions right up until the moment of birth.

Many are calling this infanticide.

“In addition to the essential legalization of infanticide by allowing the explicit killing of unborn human beings capable of living outside of the mother’s womb, this bill strikes down common-sense safety requirements put in place to protect women,” Donna J. Harrison, a medical doctor and executive director of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) told LifeZette via email.

“Abortions after 20 weeks carry a higher risk of death than deliveries, according to the CDC,” Harrison also said. “Yet this bill attempts to eliminate any safeguards for the woman, such as delivery in a facility capable of handling expected emergencies like hemorrhage and required resuscitation capabilities.”

“This bill is a classic example of pro-abortion concern for the profit and convenience of the abortionist, and not the safety of women hurt in Gosnell-type facilities,” she said.

Kermit Barron Gosnell, a former physician and abortionist, was convicted of murdering three infants born alive during attempted abortion procedures. A new film tells his story forthrightly and fully but without gore. His clinic employed untrained staff and did not keep up to code — and Gosnell himself actually severed the spines of newborn children.

“Clearly, this kind of legislation [in Virginia] is an attempt to create legal infanticide as viable babies are aborted to the cheers of abortion extremists,” said Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America, in a statement to the media on Wednesday.

“Whether in Virginia, in Rhode Island, or in any state where radical abortion zealots target viable, pre-born babies, Students for Life of America will be there to #ResistInfanticide,” Hawkins added.

In a video just released Tuesday, Kathy Tran, a Virginia Democrat delegate, acknowledged her bill would allow for an abortion even as the mother’s body was dilating for the birth of a child.

“Kathy Tran’s bill is horrifying, and it shows where the Democrats are on abortion,” Julie Gunlock, a Virginia resident and mother of three boys, told LifeZette by email on Wednesday. “They are now advocating for the murder of full-term, totally viable babies.”

“Currently there are 21 co-sponsors, who will have to answer for their extreme position come election time,” added Gunlock, the author of the book
“From Cupcakes to Chemicals: How the Culture of Alarmism Makes Us Afraid of Everything and How to Fight Back.”

Called the Repeal Act, the legislation would eliminate ultrasound requirements, scrap Virginia’s 24-hour waiting period, allow abortion providers to determine that a woman’s physical or mental health necessitates a late-term abortion, and reduced requirements for clinic health and safety standards, reported The Federalist.

This barbaric bill comes just a week after the state of New York passed a radical pro-abortion bill — on the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade — that would allow unborn babies to be aborted for almost any reason up until birth.

The New York legislation — which Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed — goes beyond Roe v. Wade. Late-term abortions, currently illegal in New York, would be permitted — and non-doctors would be able to perform them.

Some Catholics are so outraged with Cuomo’s far-Left abortion tack that they are urging New York Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan to excommunicate the governor.

Rhode Island now joins New York and Virginia with extreme positions on abortion as evidenced by House Bill 5127, or the Reproductive Health Care Act. Harrison, AAPLOG’s executive director, last night offered written testimony to the House Judiciary Committee of Rhode Island, rejecting the measure.

“The Reproductive Health Care Act is an attempt to not only permit the intentional destruction of human beings who can live outside the womb, but also an attempt to force medical professionals to participate in this killing, in violation of our Hippocratic oath, which explicitly forbids taking human life in abortion,” said Harrison.

She added, “The Reproductive Health Act will cause the State of Rhode Island to fail to protect the lives of its youngest and most vulnerable human beings in the state.  The act even allows the brutal killing of the fetus who is already a child,  capable of independent autonomous existence from his or her mother. The state has an obligation to protect the rights of these small human beings.”

AAPLOG is comprised of more than 4,600 medical professionals in the U.S., including nine members living or practicing medicine in Rhode Island.
