President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence strongly condemned the “terrible” and “evil” late-term abortion measures pushed in New York and Virginia over the last few days and weeks.

New York passed a law on January 22 allowing abortions up until the time of birth. The state’s Reproductive Health Act earned a standing ovation as New York lawmakers celebrated its passage on the 46th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.

But Virginia Democrats horrified pro-life advocates even more this week after a video surfaced of Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran (D) defending the abortion bill she sponsored.

A Republican lawmaker asked Tran if her bill allowed abortions up until the moment a mother is dilating.

Tran replied, “My bill would allow that, yes.”

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) then shocked pro-life advocates even more on Wednesday when he appeared to defend infanticide.

Northam argued during an interview captured on video that third-trimester abortions are done with “the consent of obviously the mother, with consent of the physician, multiple physicians by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities or there may be a fetus that’s not viable.”

“So in this particular example if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered,” Northam told WTOP.”The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

Both Trump and Pence reacted strongly to the late-term abortion legislation and Northam’s and Tran’s remarks.

“I watched that this morning. I watched the person testifying and I felt it was terrible,” Trump told The Daily Caller on Wednesday, referencing Tran’s remarks.

“Do you remember during the [2016 presidential] debate, I said [that] Hillary Clinton was willing to rip the baby out of the womb just prior to birth? And I used the term ‘rip’? That’s what it is. That’s what they’re doing. It’s terrible,” said Trump.

The president predicted this kind of legislation and these comments will “lift up the whole pro-life movement.”

“I think this really will lift up the issue because people have never thought of it in those terms. ‘Cause she actually said, you know, the day of — virtually the day of birth,” Trump continued.

The president also tweeted his outrage over extreme liberal policies on Thursday. Trump pointed to recent policies that presidential hopefuls like Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) championed.

“Democrats are becoming the party of late-term abortion, high taxes, open borders and crime!” Trump wrote.

Pence, for his part, tweeted on Thursday, “These VA & NY late-term abortion bills should be a call to action for all Americans.”

“It would be unconscionable for us to let this moment pass in silence. We must recommit ourselves to restoring the sanctity of life to the center of American law,” he added.

The vice president tweeted an op-ed he wrote for the National Review called, “Life Is Under Attack.”

Pence accused liberals of embracing “barbaric” practices.

“There’s another word for this: infanticide. And it is morally reprehensible and evil,” Pence wrote. “This shameless embrace of a culture of death is startling to every American who cherishes life.”

“These Virginia and New York late-term abortion bills should be a call to action for all Americans. A society can be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable, and it would be unconscionable for us to let this moment pass in silence,” Pence added.

Northam, a former pediatric neurologist, defended his comments as the backlash piled up against him.

“I have devoted my life to caring for children and any insinuation otherwise is shameful and disgusting,” Northam tweeted on Wednesday.

Ofirah Yheskel, Northam’s spokesperson, wrote a statement pushing back against conservatives’ outrage.

Yheskel claimed Republicans “are trying to play politics with women’s health.”

Even though Northam’s comments were crystal-clear, the spokesman claimed “no woman seeks a third-trimester abortion except in the case of tragic or difficult circumstances.”
