Ted Cruz Hits Back at Jim Carrey for His Painting of Covington High School Students

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is not pleased about a recent political painting by “Dumb and Dumber” star Jim Carrey.

The painting depicts the controversial confrontation between Covington Catholic High School students and Native-American activist Nathan Phillips.

Though an original video appeared to show the Make America Great Again hat-wearing teens — including Nick Sandmann — harassing Phillips, later unedited video showed that the teens were actually the victims of harassment.

Even though the record’s been set straight, Carrey’s painting of the event shows Sandmann and others intimidating Phillips.

He captioned the painting, “Baby snakes.”

Cruz responded to the painting on Thursday via his Twitter account.

“Just sad. Rich & powerful celebrity uses his fame to pick on teenagers. So much partisan hate, he doesn’t care that the full video showed these high school students as victims of harassment, not the other way around.”

“Jim, insult me, insult Trump, fine,” Cruz continued. “But leave the kids alone.”

Carrey is not the only celebrity who has continued to attack the Covington students from Kentucky, despite the fact that the full and complete video shows them in a different light.

Actress Alyssa Milano said MAGA hats are the new “white hood” — in reference to the Ku Klux Klan — after the video and doubled down on her attack in a column for The Wrap this week.

Refusing to apologize to the teens in the video, she said anyone who wears a MAGA hat identifies with “white supremacy” and “misogyny.”
