A restaurant in San Francisco is refusing to serve anyone who is wearing a Make America Great Again hat.

Wursthall opened last year in the San Mateo area.

J. Kenji Lopez-Alt is a chef partner.

Lopez-Alt announced his distaste for MAGA hats in a recent tweet in which he compared the hats to the white hoods infamously worn by members of the Ku Klux Klan.

“It hasn’t happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate,” the chef and author tweeted this week.

He followed that up by saying, “MAGA hats are like white hoods except stupider because you can see exactly who is wearing them.”

Lopez-Alt told the San Francisco Chronicle that his intolerance for the pro-Donald Trump hats has led to threats emailed to his restaurant.

Many have taken to Twitter to express displeasure with Lopez-Alt’s ban — and to even poke fun at the liberal chef’s “tolerance.”

“They should keep their hats off during the meal. Then before the check comes, put on the MAGA hat. You never know, they may not accept their money either. May get a free meal out of it,” wrote one user in response.

Another said, “So that’s not a violation of law? Refusing to serve a customer based on a hat they wear? What a joke.”

Yet another responded by saying, “And he should be sued for discrimination!”

Lopez-Alt describes himself as an “atheist” and a “feminist” on his Twitter account.

The restaurant is not the first business to try to ban MAGA hats. A Chicago bar announced a similar ban last year.
