The “real collusion” is the one “between the American media and the open borders Democrat Party” in the midst of the ongoing partial government shutdown and the border security crisis, Fox News host Laura Ingraham said Wednesday night on “The Ingraham Angle.”
The Democrats’ new talking point — as well as many members of the mainstream media’s — is calling the illegal immigration and border crisis a “manufactured crisis” that the GOP designed to force the funding of President Donald Trump’s border wall.
“The real collusion, my friends, is in Washington and it’s the one that Trump has so masterfully exposed. It’s the collusion between the American media and the open borders Democrat Party,” Ingraham warned.
Trump delivered his first Oval Office address on Tuesday evening, which the major TV networks carried during prime time.
The address occurred amid a partial government shutdown, which resulted from Democrats’ refusal to give Trump the $5 billion in border wall funding he’s requested.
But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) delivered their joint rebuttals Tuesday night and have refused to budge.
Ingraham noted that the media “spend their air-time parroting Democrat attacks on the president’s character and motives.”
Ingraham pointed to CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s contentious spat with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday prior to Trump’s speech.
“But when reporters begin acting like pundits, Kellyanne Conway showed us yesterday exactly how they should be treated,” Ingraham said.
Acosta (pictured above left) demanded of Conway, “Can you promise that the president will tell the truth tonight? Will he tell the truth?”
“Yes, Jim. Can you promise that you will? The whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God? Am I allowed to mention ‘God’ to you?” Conway retorted.
After Acosta insisted that he doesn’t have an “alternative facts” problem as he said Conway did, she replied, “Make sure that goes viral. This is why I’m one of the only people around here who gives you the time of day … You’re such a smarta** most of the time and I know you want this to go viral.”
Conway added, “Don’t you put it back in my face for all [the] corrections your network needs to issue.”
“Well, their latest tactic — and we’re going to see more of it in the coming days — is to feature the sob stories of government workers who still, by the way, have not missed a paycheck,” Ingraham said, pointing to Trump’s “smack-down” of ABC News’ Jonathan Karl (above right) on Wednesday at the White House.
Karl asked Trump whether he would sign a bill without border wall funding to allow certain government workers to get paid as Trump and lawmakers continue to debate their differences.
“You think I should do that? Do you think I should do that, Jon? I mean, I watch your one-sided reporting,” Trump shot back. “Hey, Jon. No, seriously, Jon, do you think I should just sign? Tell me, tell me.”
“Would you do that if you were in my position? Because, if you would do that, you should never be in this position,” Trump said. “Because you’d never get anything done.”
Ingraham said the “Jonathan Karl moment and the Acosta moment” made them look “like pundits. They’re not looking like reporters.”
Fox News host and media analyst Howard Kurtz told Ingraham that this was the week “when many in the media came out of the closet and just decided to constantly call Donald Trump a liar” in a “preemptive strike” ahead of the speech.
“But the name-calling now, I think — it has just reached a level where there’s no fig leaf anymore and the emotion is coming out and [they’re] calling the president a liar,” Kurtz warned.
New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin told Ingraham that “the bias has been obvious, of course, for more than two years now.”
Goodwin pointed to a recent Politico/Morning Consult revealing that 79 percent of Americans believe the border is in “crisis” or represents a “problem.”
“According to the media, it’s not an issue at all. It’s not a crisis. It’s not a problem. It’s just kind of seasonal problems that pop up every now and then. Nothing happening here. Nothing to see,” Goodwin lamented. “I think that is the great bias that is hurting the country.”
Ingraham warned, “But when you become a political pundit and try to pass yourself off as an objective anchor, I’m not getting that. I’m not seeing how that helps democracy.”
