MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski Gloats, Believes That Trump Caved to Pelosi on SOTU

As this opinion piece makes clear, the liberal TV co-host is forgetting that the president doesn't telegraph his punches

I am sure that if President Donald Trump is listening to members of his base right now, he’s probably looking at other venues to hold the State of the Union address because the media is going to run with his last decision.

Trump is known for not telegraphing his punches.

He’s also not a professional politician — he’s a businessperson.

Trump is used to having his decisions carried out promptly and thoroughly. Working in an environment these days in which his every move is argued with, stymied, or outright blocked is a new place for him.

He’s not overwhelmed or beaten by any stretch — but he is studying the situation carefully before making his next move.

Last night, on Wednesday evening, the president tweeted:

Do you support individual military members being able to opt out of getting the COVID vaccine?

By completing the poll, you agree to receive emails from LifeZette, occasional offers from our partners and that you've read and agree to our privacy policy and legal statement.

Said Brzezinski on her show this morning, in part, “[Let’s] frame why the Senate chaplain is literally praying to end the shutdown, air trafficker controllers are working 60 hours a week without pay, FBI agents say they’re losing ground in terror investigations, prison guard shortages, food stamps in limbo, the TSA understaffed…”

“With that as a backdrop, President Trump just backed down. He folded to Nancy Pelosi and in the proxy fight over the State of the Union, the president blinked first and the House speaker just doubled down in a late-night tweet.”

Remember there is no set date by which the State of the Union must be delivered.

It’s not specified in writing, nor is there a statutory requirement that he provide the SOTU information in a speech or at least a speech in public.

Everything you see there is a tradition.

Traditions can be changed or modified. They may be endearing to some people, but we’ve all seen how traditions have changed.

I am not sure it’s a huge mistake because there are so many things to be considered. However, I do think it’s a huge mistake to jump on this president every time he does something we don’t agree with.

I am for cutting him some slack on this because it keeps the spotlight on Pelosi’s mean-spiritedness, not his lack of leadership.

This is a war.

We can’t fight it by screaming foul every time we don’t like the decisions of our leader.

When it does happen, the Democrats are going to get their backsides bruised; the facts of how well we are doing are on Trump’s side.
