Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the mainstream media must learn that they should “never” try to “troll the king of trolls,” as President Donald will push back and make them look like “fools,” conservative author and strategist Jeffrey Lord advised Thursday night on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

It all began on Wednesday when Pelosi asked the president to postpone his State of the Union address — scheduled for January 29, and delivered annually by the president of the United States — until the government reopened. The government partially shut down just before Christmas after Democrats refused to give Trump the $5 billion he said is necessary for border wall funding.

Pelosi cited “security concerns” as the official reason behind her delay request.

But another reason for that request might be, as Politico and other outlets noted, that “Democrats also don’t want to give Trump a major platform to blame them for the shutdown, when Trump’s demand for billions in wall funding has been the main driver.” Publications cited an unnamed Democratic lawmaker close to leadership.

Although Trump did not reply directly to Pelosi’s request, he struck back on Thursday in a letter notifying her that he was canceling her planned overseas trip on a military plane “due to the shutdown.”

“We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the shutdown is over,” Trump wrote. “In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate.”

Trump further needled Pelosi by suggesting, “It would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the shutdown.”

Lord, a former Reagan staffer — whom CNN fired in August 2017 after he tweeted the Nazi salute “Sieg Heil!” while mocking liberal Media Matters for America President Angelo Carusone — called out Pelosi and the mainstream media who gushed over her State of the Union postponement request.

“And memo to Nancy Pelosi and the media, and this is the best line that I heard all day from someone else: Never troll the king of trolls,” Lord told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

He may have been referring to a tweet from Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist, which read, “One does not simply try to out-troll the king of trolls.”

“[The Democrats] went out there thinking that they could get away with this stunt, and it was a stunt. And [Trump] called them on it. And now they look like, you know, fools, to be perfectly honest,” Lord said. “I mean, they’ve got red faces.”

“I mean, this is childish behavior. They got caught at what they’re doing. They went and partied in Puerto Rico. [Pelosi] went off to Hawaii to a resort for Christmas. I mean — they’re making one misstep after another,” Lord added. “And this is serious business — serious business. And they ought to stay there and get the job done.”

Lord was referring to the more than 30 Democratic lawmakers who left D.C., behind to fly out to a luxurious seaside resort in the Hurricane Maria-ravaged Puerto Rico with 109 lobbyists and business executives last week for a holiday retreat.

The group watched a special fundraising production of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” helmed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and the rest of the original cast; and they attended posh parties as the government shutdown dragged on.

Ingraham said during the Thursday night discussion, “If you really care about the people, you’d be at least in Washington. Even if you can’t come to an agreement, you’d be here saying, ‘We’ve got one more chance at this. Let’s try it again.'”

Democratic strategist Joel Rubin, a former deputy assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs, told Ingraham that “Pelosi is setting the frame for the discussion.”

“And Donald Trump today, he pushed back very aggressively and effectively. And I think this doesn’t make anybody look good. Right now we have a shutdown. We need there to be a negotiation. There needs to be a deal,” Rubin said. “But this kind of tit-for-tat really makes Washington look bad.”

Byron York, the Washington Examiner’s chief political correspondent and a Fox News contributor, suggested Democrats are behaving this way because they “think they’re winning.”

“Donald Trump today, he pushed back very aggressively and effectively. And I think this doesn’t make anybody look good. Right now we have a shutdown. We need there to be a negotiation.”

Pointing to a number of polls over the weekend showing that a majority of Americans blame Trump and the GOP for the shutdown, York said, “And believe me — if it were the other way around or even equal, I do not think Democrats would have been doing this.”

“They’re doing this because they think they have the public behind them and Trump is going to be blamed whatever happens,” York added.
