Kamala Harris ‘Running to Finish What Obama Started’ with Medicare for All

The 2020 Democratic presidential contender's policies would cause our health care system to implode, suggests a noted cardiologist

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is “running to finish what” former President Barack Obama started in her 2020 presidential bid by pledging the “fantasy” of free Medicare for All, Fox News host Laura Ingraham warned Monday night on “The Ingraham Angle.”

Obama made universal health care reform one of his top issues during his 2008 presidential campaign.

He completely upended the nation’s health care system when he signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law in 2010.

But now Democrats are peddling increasingly progressive policies as they look ahead to the 2020 presidential election — including Medicare for All.

Harris (shown above right) officially kicked off her bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination over the weekend.

“I am running to declare, once and for all, that health care is a fundamental right. And we will deliver that right with Medicare for All,” Harris said during her speech in Oakland, California.

When asked during a CNN town hall on Monday about for-profit health care insurers, Harris replied, “Let’s eliminate all of that … Let’s move on.”

Ingraham said Harris “is running to finish what Obama started. She’s promising free everything. But what does this mean for America? And how will her Medicaid for All agenda impact you and your health care?”

Dr. Ramin Oskoui, a leading cardiologist in the Washington, D.C., area, told Ingraham that the United States’ health care system would collapse if Harris had her way with Medicare for All.

Oskoui used an analogy of a supermarket in which wholesale milk is bought for $3 per gallon — but sold to the public for only $1 per gallon.

“What happens? Customer’s happy. The doctor’s happy. But eventually the store goes bankrupt because it’s only selling the milk for 30 percent of what it costs. That’s exactly what’s going on with Medicare,” Oskoui said. “Medicare taxes over the lifetime of patients who pay in only cover 30 percent of the current cost.”

“Everyone’s happy — but we’re not paying for it. We’re simply putting it on a credit card,” Oskoui added. “Eventually we’re all going to be the VA [Department of Veterans Affairs], except the .1 percent who can afford concierge doctors.”

The VA, which provides health care services to U.S. veterans, notoriously has been plagued with poor service and long waits in recent years.

President Donald Trump made addressing the VA crisis one of his top priorities during his first two years in office, especially with the VA Mission Act of 2018.
