Hollywood studios are so desperate these days to get people into the theaters that they will make a movie out of anything remotely recognizable to the average person — including board games.
Lionsgate and Hasbro are teaming up for a movie adaptation of the ever-popular Monopoly — yes, you read that right. Kevin Hart is set to star in the picture and Tim Story — who directed Hart in numerous films, including hits like “Ride Along” and “Think Like a Man” — will direct, according to Deadline.
Hart will help produce the picture through his HartBeat Productions.
The plotline is being kept under wraps at the moment, but a previous version of the script reportedly followed a young man from Baltic Avenue — who sets out to make a fortune.
Though a movie version of Monopoly is yet another sign of mainstream Hollywood studios’ scraping the bottom of the barrel for material, the hiring of Hart is a smart move. Despite recent controversy, Hart is a formidable box office star.
He currently stars in “The Upside,” which is currently number one at the domestic box office.
The hiring of Hart is also a hit to the Academy Awards and to social justice warriors — who not too long ago put the comedian in their sights.
After Hart was recently hired to host the Oscars, the PC police dug into his past and found several jokes that they deemed to be anti-gay. Hart had already apologized for the jokes; and after apologizing once again, he backed out of the gig, saying he was unwilling to bend to the will of hungry social justice warriors.
The Academy Awards currently has no host.
