“Gosnell” doesn’t hit home video until February 5, but already it’s a best-seller.

After a long fight to find financing and make its way to theaters, “Gosnell” faced a mainstream media blackout. Despite a strong box office opening, few outlets gave the film any notice.

To make matters worse, theaters across the country reportedly were not advertising the film — or they buried it, period.

Directed by Nick Searcy (pictured above left), “Gosnell” tells the story of Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortion doctor who was convicted on three counts of first degree murder in 2013.

The man was a cold-hearted killer who had performed numerous late-term abortions outside the legal parameters.

Unable to find mainstream Hollywood support for the true-crime film, “Gosnell” raised millions through crowdfunding.

It then took years for those behind it to convince anyone to put the movie in theaters.

The fact that the story showed a negative side of abortion was likely the reason the media ignored it in 2013 and the reason the powers that be buried the film in 2018.

It didn’t work, though. Now, in addition to its strong box office performance, “Gosnell” is a best-selling DVD. On Amazon sales charts, the movie is the top order for new dramas.

It’s also in the top 10 orders on the overall best-seller list for movies and television. Films ahead of “Gosnell” on that list include major blockbusters like “Halloween” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

It goes to show that everyday people will support the art and the stories they want to see no matter which way the wind blows in mainstream Hollywood.

“Gosnell” is a movie financed by the people and made for the people. Like many faith-based films that find success despite their small budgets and marketing campaigns, “Gosnell” doesn’t need Hollywood to succeed.

“Gosnell” stars Dean Cain (above right), Sarah Jane Morris, Earl Billings, Michael Beach, and Nick Searcy. The film is directed by Nick Searcy and written by Andrew Klavan, Phelim McAleer (also producer) and Ann McElhinney (also producer).
