UPS driver Ryan Arens revealed his courageous efforts to save a scared dog from drowning while he making his usual rounds.

Arens was delivering packages just before the holidays in Bozeman, Montana, when he arrived at a house and heard the cries of a desperate animal.

The dog was “screaming and crying and going crazy,” he explained in an article published the other day.

The UPS employee promptly left the package at the recipient’s door — and hastily drove to the other side of a pond, where he heard the sounds.

It was at this point that he got a good look at a desperate pup. “I could see the dog trapped about 10 to 15 feet off [the] shore, with ice all around it,” Arens told the Great Falls Tribune.

An elderly man was already attempting a rescue with a boat, but to no avail.

After observing the man struggling to break up the ice in an attempt to get closer to the cold, frightened dog, Arens snapped into action.

“I stripped to my boxers and got the guy out of the boat. Then, I slid the boat out onto the ice, using it to distribute my weight,” he said. “I shimmied out to where the ice was thin.”

The dog began to sink below the surface.

Arens — now undoubtedly freezing himself — quickly swam in her direction.

Fortunately, he was able to grab the dog’s collar and drag her to thicker, more stable ice.

Together, the UPS driver and the man already on the scene carefully slid over the ice and arrived safely back on shore — where a bystander was waiting with a blanket.

The pair then warmed up in the home of the older man as they waited for authorities to arrive.

“Animals are my weakness,” Arens also told the Great Falls Tribune.

“[This] was the highlight of my 14-year UPS career.”

He said that later, he discovered where the dog lived and coincidentally had a package to deliver to the same address.

Upon arriving at the home, he spotted the dog.

“She was freaking out,” he said.

Her name is Sadie, he learned.

“She must have remembered me,” he said. “It sure made me feel good.”
