Americans “deserve protection” from the threats illegal immigration pose to the nation — and they deserve the protection that a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border can provide, former Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie said Thursday night on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

President Donald Trump campaigned heavily on his now-iconic pledge to build a border wall.

Although Republicans held majorities in both the House and the Senate for the first two years of Trump’s presidency, lawmakers could not reach an agreement on funding the border wall — and punted on the issue.

Now that Democrats again have a majority in the House, the $5 billion in border wall funding that Trump is demanding will become even more difficult to attain as both parties struggle to reopen the government after the partial shutdown.

Although Trump and GOP lawmakers showed a willingness to lower the $5 billion request in a compromise, newly minted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) still are refusing to budge on providing a cent of border wall funding.

After reclaiming the House gavel, Pelosi and the new Democratic majority passed a spending bill on Thursday to end the partial government shutdown that failed to include any funding for the wall.

Bossie argued Thursday night against Chris Hahn, a former Democratic aide to Schumer, about what constitutes border security and why the wall is needed to secure the border.

“The problem is you don’t want a wall anywhere, and the American people deserve protection from these folks who want to come in here and bring drugs, human trafficking and murder and violence to Americans,” Bossie told Hahn. “And that’s what we see every single day. And the blood is on the hands of the Democrats.”

Hahn claimed “a wall is not border security” and only represents “old technology.”

“I believe we should have proper technology at the border — not a physical structure — but we should use drones. We should use the latest technology to make sure that we know what’s coming across our border and we can respond to it appropriately with Border Patrol agents,” Hahn argued. “We don’t need a wall from sea to shining sea, David.”

But Bossie demanded of Hahn, “How many more Kate Steinles do we have to have? How many officers that were murdered on Christmas Day? The blood is on the hands of the Democrats in Congress. That’s a fact.”

Bossie was referring to young Kate Steinle’s 2015 death at the hands of illegal immigrant Jose Ines Garcia Zarate in San Francisco. Steinle’s murder came to the forefront of the national conversation when Trump highlighted it during his 2016 presidential election campaign.

Bossie also referenced the recent death of Newman Police Department Cpl. Ronil “Ron” Singh, 33, last week during a traffic stop in California at the hands of an illegal immigrant. Singh was born in Fiji and immigrated to this country legally.

“We’re tired of words. That’s what the American people are tired of. They’re tired of Washington, D.C., politics … and guys like you who just want to talk all day,” Bossie told Hahn.

“And [Trump’s] willing to make a deal on the DACA kids, which — there’s many people on our side of the aisle who don’t agree with it. But he’s willing to do it,” Bossie said, referring to the illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children who qualify under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

“Nancy Pelosi and Cryin’ Chuck Schumer won’t even make a deal with those kids in mind — the poor children. Can’t you guys support the poor children?” Bossie demanded.

“My question to all them now is why are you putting the value of those who are at our border trying to overrun our border agents on the weekends in San Diego — why are you putting their rights ahead of Americans’ rights?” Collins asked.

Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), the new ranking Republican on the House Committee on the Judiciary, told Fox News guest host Jason Chaffetz that Pelosi and the Democrats “did a mock vote” on legislation “that the president won’t sign” and that “they know the Senate is not going to take” it up.

“They put out a vote out there. Basically they did not deal with what we need to deal with on the border, and that is taking care of our border wall, taking care of our security,” Collins said.

He also referenced a skirmish that occurred at the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday. Migrants rushed the border and threw rocks at the agents. The agents deployed tear gas as the 150 migrants tried to enter the U.S. illegally.

“My question to all them now is why are you putting the value of those who are at our border trying to overrun our border agents on the weekends in San Diego — why are you putting their rights ahead of Americans’ rights?” Collins asked.

“Why are you putting the lives of Americans at risk, such as a brave officer in California who was killed by somebody who is here illegally and protected through … sanctuary city laws, which actually have now cost lives again?” Collins added.
