Planned Parenthood performed a staggering 332,757 abortions last year — an increase of more than 11,000 from the previous year, according to the organization’s annual report, released this past weekend.

These latest figures stand in stark contrast to the corporation’s 2,831 adoption referrals during the same time period.

And now the New York Senate has passed a radical pro-abortion bill — on Tuesday, the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade — that would allow unborn babies to be aborted for almost any reason up until birth.

The New York legislation — which Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed — goes beyond Roe v. Wade. Late-term abortions, currently illegal in New York, would be permitted, and non-doctors would be able to perform them.

The bill adds a broad “health” exception for abortions after 24 weeks. That exception would allow women to abort unborn babies up to nine months of pregnancy for “age, economic, social and emotional factors, rather than the biological definition of ‘health’ that normally comes to mind,” according to the New York Right to Life group.

Also of note, a judge this week struck down Iowa’s “fetal heartbeat” abortion law, which banned women from getting abortions once the fetal heartbeat was detected. The judge said it violated the state’s constitution.

Ironically, the rise in the number of abortions handled by Planned Parenthood could signal trouble ahead for the nation’s largest abortion provider. That’s according to Melanie Israel, a research associate in the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at The Heritage Foundation based in Washington, D.C.

“Planned Parenthood’s annual report, which was quietly released over the holiday weekend, affirms new President Leanna Wen’s assertion that abortion is the ‘core mission’ of Planned Parenthood,” Israel told LifeZette by email.

“As abortions increase and the organization enjoys a record-high amount of taxpayer funding, non-abortion services are decreasing, clinics are closing their doors, and the total number of unique patients turning to Planned Parenthood for care is declining,” she added.

“Planned Parenthood is not a health care organization,” said Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, in a statement to the press on Tuesday.

“The corporation is America’s largest abortion chain, and its own numbers prove it. Hundreds of thousands of innocent, precious children — some old enough to survive outside the womb — are killed in its facilities every year.”

Added Rose, “Services like pap tests and manual breast exams continue their downward trajectory, while abortions and government funding continue to increase. Planned Parenthood has increased abortions while it offers virtually no services to help pregnant moms birth or care for their babies. Referring one child out for adoption for every 117 abortions you perform and offering just 9,000 prenatal services, compared to over 332,000 abortions, shows this corporation is more interested in aborting babies than helping moms have healthy births.”

Yet Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen is somehow framing abortion as “routine” — a procedure akin to an annual checkup, dismissing the well-known fact that abortions, for many, could lead to a lifetime of painful regret.

“Through all our work, we will continue to assert what we know to be true: Planned Parenthood services — from birth control to cancer screenings to abortion — are standard medical care. Reproductive health care is health care,” said Wen, a medical doctor, in the organization’s annual report.

“There are still great challenges ahead, and every day the people who rely on Planned Parenthood face attacks on their families, their health, and their dignity. But Planned Parenthood’s 12 million supporters are stronger than ever, ready to defend our hard-won rights and press forward into the future, together,” reads a paragraph from the PP’s annual report.

If recent polling is any indication, though, challenges could come from millennials — commonly referred to as the pro-life generation.

“Pregnancy is not a disease cured by abortion. Women deserve real, life-affirming care, and taxpayers deserve a return on their investment that helps women and their children, born and preborn.”

“As Students for Life of America just illustrated in our recent poll, by about a 3 to 1 margin, millennials said they preferred that their tax monies go to Federally Qualified Health Centers rather than the abortion giant, Planned Parenthood,” said the organization’s president, Kristan Hawkins, in a press release on Monday. “Let’s make that happen and defund Planned Parenthood to invest in life-saving care,” she added.

“While Planned Parenthood pushes talking points about health care, the fact remains that Planned Parenthood is the nation’s number-one abortion vendor, profiting by violently ending life. But pregnancy is not a disease cured by abortion. Women deserve real, life-affirming care, and taxpayers deserve a return on their investment that helps women and their children, born and preborn,” said Hawkins.

Based in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Students for Life of America is the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization. It has more than 1,220 groups on college and high school campuses in all 50 states.

“The big business of abortion is evident in this report, as Planned Parenthood turned a profit of nearly $250 million, a 150 percent increase, according to its own accounts. What a waste of taxpayer dollars,” noted Hawkins.
