Stephen Colbert called Fox News host Tucker Carlson the “little racist who could” on his show on Wednesday night.

Colbert is the latest to criticize Carlson over recent comments on illegal immigration that have led a handful of advertisers to flee his evening program, “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“We have a moral obligation to admit the world’s poor, they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer, and dirtier, and more divided. Immigration is a form of atonement,” Carlson said recently on his show.

The Fox News host added, “Previous leaders of our country committed sins; we must pay for those sins by welcoming an endless chain of migrant caravans.”

Some people are calling for more advertisers to boycott Carlson’s show over those comments, including director Judd Apatow (“Knocked Up,” “Funny People”).

Apatow said Carlson “spews racism and hate.”

Pacific Life and Bowflex, among other companies, have moved their advertising off the show, but the host has stood strong and his network is behind him.

In a statement about Carlson shared with LifeZette, Fox News said, “We cannot and will not allow voices like Tucker Carlson to be censored by agenda-driven intimidation efforts from the likes of Moveon.org, Media Matters and Sleeping Giants. Attempts were made last month to bully and terrorize Tucker and his family at their home. He is now once again being threatened via Twitter by far-Left activist groups with deeply political motives. While we do not advocate boycotts, these same groups never target other broadcasters and operate under a grossly hypocritical double standard given their intolerance to all opposing points of view.”

Colbert, meanwhile, suggested that Carlson has a history of “flirting with racism.”

“Carlson’s already got a reputation for flirting with racism, but last week, he took it to a racy new level,” Colbert stated.

After playing the controversial comments on illegal immigration for his audience, Colbert added, “Now, if just listening to him say that makes you feel dirty and more divided, you’re not alone. Tucker got a lot of heat for those remarks, but he’s nothing if not the little racist who could. And he came chuggin’ back up that hill on Monday…”

The late-night host then went after Carlson for daring to cover a story about a coffee shop in Scotland that decided to start selling “gingerbread people” instead of “gingerbread men.”

Colbert laughed at the “hard news” — and called Carlson “the tainted cookie dough that got recalled for salmonella poisoning.”
