This Christmas season, social justice warriors have taken serious issue with Frank Loesser’s 1944 hit song “Baby it’s Cold Outside.” Some have even decided to champion a new, more politically correct version of the tune.
Songwriters Lydia Liza and Josiah Lemanski have developed their own version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” a version that is more “fit” for today’s outrage culture.
While they initially wrote the song in 2016, it’s now gained more traction due to the recent debate over the original song.
In Liza and Lemanski’s updated “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” instead of a man trying to woo a woman into staying with him longer — the man is essentially apathetic to the whole situation.
For example, a few of the lines read, “I really can’t stay (Baby, I’m fine with that). I’ve gotta go away (Baby, I’m cool with that). This evening has been (I’m hoping you get home safe).”
At one point, the man even says he will get the woman’s coat for her — so he helps her leave sooner.
Although this seems to completely change the premise of the song, those on the Left have been praising it.
Most notably, The Current, a radio station owned by Minnesota Public Radio, argued it “loved” the new version of the song.
The station said that the duo “revised the lyrics to emphasize the importance of consent in sexual relationships.”
In fact, the station even invited Liza and Lemanski into the studio live to perform the tune .
However, not everyone is pleased with the song.
While that performance on The Current has over 700,000 views on YouTube, the video itself has 11,000 dislikes compared to just 5,500 likes.
One YouTube user commented, “This is why Trump won,” a reference to President Donald Trump’s opposition to political correctness.
Another user added, “1944: ‘Baby, it’s Cold Outside.’ 2017: ‘Baby, Get Out of My House.’ Well done, feminism.” The comment has over 600 up-votes.
Another comment with over 900 likes reads, “This is the garbage that results when a deranged ‘social movement’ attempts to rewrite history.”
A handful of radio stations have begun banning the song, but some have reversed their bans after listeners have shown support for the tune .
