The newly elected lawmaker from New York, Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — who wants her actions and policies to match the words that come out of her mouth (and the tweets she writes) — has announced this week she is going to pay her congressional interns $15 per hour.

She is due to be sworn in January 3 when the next session of Congress begins.

She is calling the pay plan an effort to “walk the walk,” as Fox Business reported on Wednesday morning.

In government offices across the nation’s capital — not to mention in plenty of private offices across the country — Ocasio-Cortez will be “considered a generous boss,” noted Fox Business.

Many government internships are unpaid, although many private companies have firm policies in place to pay their interns on an hourly basis, no matter what the specific jobs of those young people may be.

“A 2017 study by an advocacy group called Pay Our Interns found that 51 percent of Senate Republicans offered paid internships, compared with 31 percent of Democrats,” noted Fox Business, referencing the study Ocasio-Cortez also mentioned.

“Meanwhile, young staffers in the House of Representatives had dismal pay prospects: Only 8 percent of Republicans — or 19 of 238 — paid interns, while 3.6 percent of Democrats, or 7 of 193, did so.”

The same study cited above also found that internships in D.C. cost $6,000 on average.

“A list of who was not paying young staffers included lawmakers like California [Democrat] Sen. Kamala Harris, Virginia Democrat Mark Warner, and New York Democrat Chuck Schumer — all of whom have voiced support for raising the federal minimum wage,” the outlet reported.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out additional messages about internship pay and related issues:

Sen. Mark Warner’s office told Fox Business that it offers paid internships, which are available to certain applicants who can show “demonstrated financial need.”

Compensation rates are $13.25 per hour. A spokesperson for Sen. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that, as of January, the office will offer “eligible interns” a stipend.

Notable Republicans on the list include Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) as well as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

A spokesperson for Sen. Ted Cruz told Fox Business that he is paying his interns, though the individual would not say “how much or whether all interns are included.”

Another lawmaker, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), also pays interns $15 per hour, his office told Fox Business.

Ocasio-Cortez has had some challenges of late when it comes to financial matters.

The fresh-faced lawmaker-elect has filled Twitter and Instagram recently with posts that leave her detractors — and even some of her supporters — shaking their heads in disbelief.

Even the liberal-friendly Washington Post couldn’t allow her to skate on her latest whopper — a $21 trillion “mistake” for which The Post’s fact-checkers awarded her the cringeworthy “four Pinnochios.”

In Sunday’s economics-challenged tweet, the 29-year-old somehow concluded that Pentagon accounting errors could finance two thirds of her goal to saddle the United States with socialized medicine.

“$21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions ‘could not be traced, documented, or explained.’ $21T in Pentagon accounting errors,” she wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

“Medicare for All costs ~$32T. That means 66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon. And that’s before our premiums.”
