Late-night television is in such a sad and desperate state.

Comedians such as Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert are so divisive and wrapped up in sharp-edged humor aimed at President Donald Trump and anyone remotely different from them that it’s hard to tell what will happen to these entertainers in a post-Donald Trump presidency world.

They have shamed and aggressively attacked any and all conservatives, and their shows only demonstrate any sort of life when they preach politics on their soapboxes.

Kimmel continued his tired political preaching on Tuesday night by going after Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary.

The comedian introduced a “new holiday character” to challenge the popularity of the Elf on the Shelf, a toy used to inspire children to behave during the holiday season.

The Elf on the Shelf watches over kids and makes sure they’re “good” enough to get gifts when Christmas comes around.

Kimmel then showed a fake commercial for his new toy suggestion, which was little more than an excuse to attack Sarah Sanders.

“Tired of the Elf on a Shelf snitching on your every move? From the creators of Trump on a Stump and Pence on a Fence, a new elf to spin your bad deeds. Introducing Huckabee in a Tree,” the narrator of the commercial says.

The commercial narrator then adds, “She sees what you’re doing, but she’s not going to tell anyone.”

The Huckabee doll is also rather ugly, a deformed thing that burps and lies. It’s the sort of representation that would never, ever be accepted by the mainstream media or social justice warriors if it were targeting a woman in the Democrat Party.

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

The commercial is obviously Kimmel’s attempt to push the theory that Sanders is somehow aware of illegal activity by the president — and is deliberately lying to the press and the American people.

Late-night television was once a place where everyone could go to escape the day.

Now, it’s little more than an extension of the mainstream media attacks on conservatives, with some tired humor thrown in just “because.”

How did we go from the great Johnny Carson — to Kimmel and Stephen Colbert? How did we go from a motivation to laugh and entertain and lighten — to a motivation to divide and take down anything and everything on the Right?

Kimmel is a comedian host who continues to exemplify the downward spiral of late-night television, especially in the age of Donald Trump.
