There is plenty for book lovers to devour in 2019.

Thriller writers like Stephen Hunter and Brad Thor will be offering new entries in their immensely popular ongoing franchises, actor Gary Sinise will be breaking down his career and work on behalf of veterans — and there’s so much more.

Whatever one’s taste in the written word, there will be plenty to choose from in 2019.

Here is a look at five books we can’t miss in the new year.

1.) “Grateful American” by Gary Sinise (February 12). Actor and musician Gary Sinise (pictured above middle) has become well known in the last decade for his extraordinary work on behalf of veterans.

Now, the “Forrest Gump” and “CSI: NY” star is finally telling his story — from Academy Award-nominated actor to the head of the Gary Sinise Foundation in “Grateful American.”

“It’s been an interesting up-and-down journey, this life, and I decided to take some of those stories and some of the things that have happened to me and that have affected me in this life’s journey and put them into a book,” Sinise says in the trailer for his new book, to be published by Thomas Nelson.

“Grateful America” not only covers Sinise’s work to help veterans — it also covers his impressive acting career, from helping to found the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago to starring in hit films such as “Forrest Gump” and “Apollo 13.”

2.) “Murder, She Wrote: Murder in Red” by Jessica Fletcher and John Land (May 28). The landmark TV series may have ended back in 1996, but “Murder, She Wrote” is a franchise that is alive and well with not just one but two new Jessica Fletcher adventures coming to readers in 2019.

“Murder, She Wrote: Murder in Red” is the first of those two books. It follows Jessica (played in the show by Angela Lansbury, above right) as she investigates the mysterious death of a friend who checked into a hospital for a simple procedure.

3.) “Backlash” by Brad Thor (June 11). Thor (above left) is one of the strongest and most honest thriller writers around.

“Backlash” is the latest novel to follow the adventures of counterterrorism agent Scot Harvath, a patriotic and reliable soldier whose missions are often complicated by government red tape.

There are no publicly available story details yet about “Backlash,” but if past Harvath books are any indication, this will be one of the most nail-biting reads of 2019.

4.) “Tom Clancy: Enemy Contact” by Mike Maden (June 11). Thriller writer Tom Clancy passed away in 2013 at the age of 66, but his legacy continues on. Clancy’s name is attached to several prominent franchises.

“Enemy Contact,” written by Mike Maden, follows Jack Ryan Jr. as he attempts to fulfill the final wish of a dying friend. Asked to spread the friend’s ashes in Chile, Ryan complies — and sets out to complete his latest mission. He is warned off again and again from reaching the hillside in Chile; he’s even beaten at one point and told to go home.

What seemed like a simple mission soon turns into a conspiracy theory that Ryan did not see coming.

5.) “Game of Snipers” by Stephen Hunter (July 30). The Bob Lee Swagger series is 10 novels deep and stronger than ever. “Game of Snipers” marks the 11th adventure for the Vietnam veteran and master sniper.

After a woman who lost her son in war approaches Swagger, the aging veteran finds himself pitted against a sniper with skills equal to his own.

Stephen Hunter’s writing is sharp and biting; his novels continue to be the most knowledgable and eye-opening when it comes to firearms.
