Reba McEntire is one of the few modern celebrities who refuses to talk politics.

The 63-year-old country singer recently told ITK that talking politics has nothing to do with her job as an entertainer.

She said of speaking about political issues, “That’s not my job.”

Though she stays away from the subject matter, she said, she also doesn’t condemn celebrities who do get politically involved.

“That’s why it’s so great to live here in the United States of America,” she said. “You can vote in and you can say what you want to and you can choose not to say what you want to.”

It’s not the first instance in which McEntire refused to engage in politics.

In an appearance on “The View” last year, she explained that her decision to stay away from that arena is something she does out of respect for her fans.

She said when she is performing a concert, she is there “to entertain them [the fans], to take their worries away from them, so when they walk out, they can kind of have a little lift in their step and go, ‘Aw, that was such a great break from all the problems I have to deal with during daily life.’ So I’m not going to give them my political views.”

It’s a rare sentiment in an entertainment industry that seems to reward and celebrate diatribes at award shows and in interviews. The more someone insults the current president, the more applause that person gets from the industry.

Nearly every celebrity today is an amateur pundit — and these folks spend more time insulting their right-leaning fans than actually creating art.

McEntire is still an incredibly popular musician and it’s clearly partly because of her refusal to dabble in politics. Other popular celebrities who give the cold shoulder to political preaching include popular stars like Mark Wahlberg and Chris Pratt.

“A lot of celebrities did, do, and shouldn’t [talk about politics],” Wahlberg said about preachy celebrities last year.

McEntire is best known for songs like “Fancy” and “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.” She has won three Grammy Awards and been nominated a total of 15 times.

McEntire also has an impressive acting career.

She has starred in beloved movies like “Tremors” and “The Little Rascals” and she even had her own successful sitcom for a number of years.

“Reba,” in which the country star played a freshly divorced mother of three, ran for a total of 125 episodes from 2001 to 2007.
