Students at yet another liberal college campus are making their voices and views heard in the highly controversial immigration debate.

The student government at the University of California, Berkeley, “voted to financially fund the migrant caravan in a resolution passed by the student senate” last week, as Breitbart noted on Monday.

The $1,500 in funds for the student organization Central Americans For Empowerment will help, apparently, with migrants’ “legal fees and health services.”

This decision clearly disrespects the rule of law in this country and the protection of American borders.

Yet these students and other migrant caravan supporters like them across the country are insulting every legal immigrant who became a citizen of the United States through a lawful, orderly process.

This is hardly the first time the Berkeley community has stood with illegal immigrants or others of this ilk: Some six years ago, just to name another example, Berkeley spent $1 million from a grant it received to fund scholarships for nearly 200 illegal immigrants.

“Most of the scholarship recipients [were] children of immigrants who crossed the border illegally and [grew] up in the United States,” according to earlier reports on the activity.

“Such children are currently ineligible for federal grants, loans or work-study positions, making it financially difficult for them to enroll in college.”

And this past weekend, a Democrat lawmaker actually helped some members of the caravan get into this country illegally.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) joined a group of migrants seeking asylum on Saturday as they tried to enter the United States from Tijuana on Saturday afternoon — “an attempt to spotlight what Democrats view as the inhumane effects of President Donald Trump’s border crackdown,” as Politico noted.

“I’m in Tijuana, at the border at the Mexican side … Since I saw the pictures of the tear gassing,” she claimed, using the term erroneously — no one was actually tear gassed — “I felt I needed to come down here and find out for myself what was happening and talk to people who are part of the caravan, asylum seekers, and talk with Mexican officials here,” Jayapal told KIRO Radio. As a result of her efforts, five illegal aliens gained access to this country.

In contrast to all of this, a member of America’s legal immigrant family is New York Times best-selling author Brigitte Gabriel, who in her new book, “Rise: In Defense of Judeo-Christian Values and Freedom,” writes extensively about how immigration policies are fundamentally changing this nation.

“So much has changed from a cultural standpoint over the past decade, but nothing so unfortunate as the attempted legitimacy of lawlessness that pervades our current American landscape,” Gabriel said in a statement shared with LifeZette.

“It seems like only yesterday when encouraging a foreign invasion on our southern border was considered a radical and dangerous sentiment.”

“Now, it’s practically the spoken word throughout the mainstream media, Democrat political offices and Hollywood social media accounts. Of course, we now live in a country where the American flag is considered a ‘hate symbol’ on certain college campuses, so I suppose nothing should shock us anymore.”

Gabriel added there’s nothing racist about locking doors at night; millions of Americans of every race, gender, religion do it every night.

“It is those who are supporting this attempted invasion, in fact, who are disgracing legal immigrants such as myself, who had to go to extraordinary lengths to achieve citizenship legally,” Gabriel also said.

“Tens of thousands of dollars were invested after years of penny pinching, and countless hours were spent studying American civics and history. Lawyers, paperwork, medical testing — it’s all part of the well-worth-it process of coming to America the legal and legitimate way.”

“Those who took the time to follow the rule of law and went to these extraordinary lengths, making tremendous personal and financial sacrifices, are watching this caravan invasion on television and those who support it with resentment and betrayal,” she added.

“And, by the way, we are not a nation built by immigrants. We are a nation founded by settlers and built by citizens. Immigrants become citizens, and then add to the fabric of the American ideal.”

“Immigrants who make this country better do so assimilating to America — not the other way around—as well as by following the law, not breaking it.”

Gabriel’s new book “Rise” contains a hard-hitting and explosive message.

It’s a rallying cry to unite Americans of all backgrounds in a fight for the survival of the nation, the protection of the Judeo-Christian values upon which it was built — and the preservation of the freedoms on which future generations depend.

“We are a nation founded by settlers and built by citizens. Immigrants become citizens, and then add to the fabric of the American ideal.”

Gabriel herself has boldly faced death threats from terrorists, condemnation from critics, and attacks from the PC police — yet she refuses to back down.

She started her organization, ACT for America, which is approaching 1 million members, in an effort to protect the citizens of the United States from the horrors she experienced as a girl.

She is also the author of two New York Times best-sellers, “Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America” (2006) and “They Must Be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It” (2010).

“Rise” is published by Frontline, an imprint of Charisma House.
