First lady Melania Trump dismissed the harsh critiques by the mainstream media of her red Christmas trees adorning the White House during a Wednesday event at Liberty University about today’s opioid epidemic.

Mrs. Trump said the decorations chosen for “the people’s house” “look fantastic” and “even more beautiful” in person.

Melania Trump unveiled this year’s White House Christmas decorations on Monday, noting that the theme is “American Treasures” and that it highlights “the spirit of patriotism.”

But one aesthetic choice, in particular, really caught the eye (and the ire) of social media users and liberal outlets — leading them to go wild with mass speculation and mockery: the red Christmas trees leading to the Grand Foyer and Cross Hall.

Last year, social media users and media members mercilessly ripped the first lady for her choice of beautiful and sparkling white Christmas trees in the same hallway and elsewhere throughout the White House.

The first lady chose red this year to represent “patriotism” and “the heart of America,” according to a White House press release.

She wanted to give them “center stage with more than 14,000 red ornaments hanging from 29 trees.”

“The choice of red is an extension of the pales, or stripes, found in the presidential seal designed by our Founding Fathers,” the press release read. “It’s a symbol of valor and bravery.”

But many leftists and mainstream media types ridiculed the red trees. Some compared the scarlet trees to the iconic horror movie “The Shining,” as well as to the red capes worn by handmaids in the popular “The Handmaid’s Tale” TV series.

MSNBC called it a “murder forest.”

Slate called them “red Christmas trees of death.”

Vice said that “Melania Trump’s Christmas from Hell” pays “tribute to our country’s unique heritage of anguish and pain.”

Eric Bolling, a conservative former Fox News host who became an advocate for opioid epidemic prevention and awareness following the death of his only child, moderated Wednesday’s Q and A session with the first lady.

“So here you are talking about opioids … and getting the message out. And what does the media — I’m telling you, I can’t believe this — what are they hung up on with the first lady right now? The red Christmas trees in the White House,” Bolling said, earning a laugh from Melania Trump.

“Are we kidding? This is what they worry about when lives could be saved?” Bolling asked.

The first lady offered a gracious response, replying, “We are in [the] 21st century and everybody has a different taste. I think they look fantastic.”

Her words were greeted with laughter, cheers and applause from the audience.

“I hope everybody will come over and visit it. In real life, they look even more beautiful. And you are all very welcome to visit the White House, the people’s house,” Melania Trump said.
