Though Democrats’ long-predicted blue wave was arguably underwhelming, Tuesday’s midterm elections did deliver a number of dramatic results sure to shake things up both nationally and at the state and local levels, though not all races have been called even now, early Wednesday morning.

Fox News’ “probability meter,” as early as 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, showed a greater than 95 percent chance that Democrats would retake the House and Republicans would maintain control of the Senate.

CNN’s final forecast had Democrats at 227 seats and Republicans at 208 seats in the House.

Though some Republicans were understandably disappointed with the results and concerned about the consequences, others expressed hope that it portends a bigger win for President Donald Trump when looking ahead to his re-election chances in 2020.

“I predict that losing the House will actually increase the margin by which President Trump wins re-election in 2020,” said Pastor Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of First Baptist Dallas and evangelical adviser to President Trump, in a statement provided to LifeZette late Tuesday night.

“Running against the House ‘leadership’ of Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters will be a gift that keeps on giving for the next two years,” Jeffress added.

For now, however, congressional gridlock may well be on the horizon for the next two years, and it is possible that articles of impeachment will be filed against President Trump.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) now has a shot at resuming leadership of the House.

A giddy Pelosi, after learning Democrats had indeed regained control of the House, vowed to leverage the newly reclaimed power by obstructing Trump’s agenda — and, of course, telling tall tales about Republicans’ health care-related policies.

“It’s about stopping the GOP and Mitch McConnell’s assault on Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and the health care of 130 million Americans living with pre-existing medical conditions,” said Pelosi in part.

“In stark contrast to the GOP Congress, a Democratic Congress will be led with transparency and openness,” she said with a straight face.

Other significant leadership changes may include seeing Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) as chair of the House Judiciary Committee.

Early in October, Nadler promised to open an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and perjury against newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh if Democrats regained control of the House, as The New York Times reported.

In New Jersey, Republican challenger Bob Hugin conceded to incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez around 10:20 p.m., as New Jersey 101.5 reported.

Despite a federal corruption trial, admonishment from the Senate’s ethics committee, and allegations of sexual activity with underage girls, Menendez won a third term representing the people of the very blue Garden State.

In a closely watched gubernatorial race in Florida, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R) defeated Democratic challenger Andrew Gillum in a squeaker of a race. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, DeSantis earned 49.9 percent of the Sunshine State’s voters to Gillum’s 48.9 percent.

Tallahassee’s Mayor Andrew Gillum delivered his concession speech around 11:00 p.m.

President Trump expressed his feelings about the midterms around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night, thanking voters and calling the election a “tremendous success.”
