President Donald Trump argued that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi deserves to be speaker on Wednesday after suffering a congressional loss during the midterm elections.
“In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats,” Trump said one of his many tweets scattered between last night and Wednesday morning.
“If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes. She has earned this great honor!”

Pelosi is the assumed next person to take the speaker role with her past experience.
She previously served as speaker for a few years before conservatives were able to regain control of the House. She continued her role as the party leader in the chamber afterward as minority leader. But there has been a growing movement about progressives to replace her.

The midterm election results went late into the night on Tuesday with voters on both sides coming out in droves. In the end, the results were more bittersweet for both sides.
Republicans were able to win enough elections to hold onto their Senate majority, while Democrats picked up enough seats to take control of the House.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) responded to the loss on Wednesday by saying he hopes to find bipartisan ground to work with Democrats. He mentioned that he spoke with Pelosi earlier about areas they can work on together, such as infrastructure. Pelosi, for her part, also tried to strike a moderate tone, even taking the notion of impeaching the president off the table.
During Trump’s press conference on Wednesday, the president also referenced Pelosi and the notion of bipartisanship.
He mentioned there were advantages to not having a very small one- or two-vote majority.
Trump said he appreciated Pelosi’s comments about bipartisanship — and said he thought it was possible that a divided government could be productive for the country.
Trump said there was “nothing sarcastic” about his positive tweet about Pelosi on Wednesday morning.
“I really believe she deserves that position,” he said.
“We can do a tremendous amount of great legislation together,” he added. “It really could be a beautiful” bipartisan relationship.

Trump held dozens of rallies across the country in recent months to stir support for conservative candidates. The midterms overall have drawn a considerable amount of attention in a show of how much political unrest there is across the country. The Center for Responsive Politics predicts that the midterm elections would be the most expensive at more than $5.2 billion.
