“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill (pictured above middle) has made waves on social media for saying only women should hold political office.
Responding to a tweet celebrating some of the Democratic women joining Congress (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pictured above right, Ayanna Pressley left) after the midterms, Hamill wrote, “For centuries, men have had their chance to rule government with middling-to-poor results. Who’s ready to let women take charge completely? Just women. I know I am.”

Hamill is really straining logic here in an attempt to prove how “woke” he is to fellow leftists, but let’s go ahead and try to follow his thinking.
Women holding political office is great. Diversity can lead to different perspectives and the melding of different perspectives and walks of life is part of what makes political debate in America so rich.
However, the actor seems to be confused here. His basic argument that men have had their time and now only women should hold political office is based in the same biased logic that he thinks he’s arguing against. Simply reversing bias does not accomplish anything.
This is typical modern leftist thought though. Everyone is completely defined by their gender, sexuality, etc. The idea of the individual is dead to people like Hamill. He now only seems capable of thinking in groups and, again, this is the exact sort of bias he seems to think he’s arguing against.
Hamill’s political rhetoric has not exactly gone over well on social media.
Former Superman actor and “Gosnell” star Dean Cain wrote on Twitter in response, “This is just ridiculous. Leaders are leaders, regardless of their sex, race, sexual orientation, religion, height, weight, hair color, etc … Limiting it in any way is/was/will always be ridiculous (and yes, I know the history).”

“In his world, I should tell my son he could never be in government because it’s only for women. You don’t get to equality by exclusion. It’s a dumba** comment,” another user wrote.
Yet another responded by saying, “This is what I mean when I talk about bigots hiding behind equality. Equality and diversity mean men and women ruling side by side, not one lording over the other. Mark Hamill is actually arguing against diversity here.”
Hamill is most well-known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise. Beyond the original trilogy of films, he reprised his role for last year’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
The actor has also guest starred several times on “The Flash” and provided the voice of the DC Comics villain The Joker in various television shows and movies. He recently voiced the character in the animated feature “Batman: The Killing Joke.”
