MSNBC anchor Ayman Mohyeldin and GOP political consultant Shermichael Singleton suggested that President Donald Trump’s and outgoing Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s (R) harsh rhetoric about Democratic attempts to “steal” the razor-thin-margin elections in Florida could lead to political violence.

Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes and the county became engulfed in controversy in the days following Tuesday’s midterm elections when GOP candidates’ comfortable leads over Democratic candidates sank enough, as ballots kept pouring in, to trigger recounts.

Scott and Governor-Elect Ron DeSantis (R) still hold slim margins of victory over incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum (D), respectively. Scott filed two lawsuits against Broward County and Palm Beach County as the two Democrat-majority counties continued to count an unknown number of ballots past the state-mandated deadline.

Trump took to Twitter on Monday to express his outrage over officials’ violations of Florida election laws and their lack of transparency.

“The Florida Election should be called in favor of Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis in that large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged. An honest vote count is no longer possible — ballots massively infected. Must go with Election Night!” Trump tweeted.

The president also tweeted Saturday, “Trying to STEAL two big elections in Florida! We are watching closely!”

Scott insisted Monday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” that Nelson is a “sore loser” who is “just here to steal this election.”

But both Mohyeldin (pictured above left) and Singleton (above right) insisted Sunday on “MSNBC Live with Ayman Mohyeldin” that such rhetoric will lead to violence.

“What is the likelihood, you think, that the other side will accept a change in the result, if, in fact, that’s what the recount determines?” Mohyeldin asked Singleton.

Singleton noted he was “not certain” that Republicans will accept the recount results if Nelson and Gillum come out on top.

“And that’s why I think these politicians have to be very, very careful with their rhetoric. When you ask why do insane people go and shoot up a synagogue, for example, it’s because of the rhetoric that’s coming from some of these Republican politicians,” Singleton said, apparently referencing the mass shooting of Jewish-Americans in a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in late October.

“When you’re saying, ‘well, the Democrats are stealing this election … ‘ essentially you’re saying if the results do change in a manner that is not in your favor, you are going to have some extreme factions out there that are going to believe that the person who does ultimately win has done so illegitimately,” Singleton said.

“So I think those individuals have to be very, very careful with their rhetoric to say, ‘Look, let’s allow all the votes to be counted,’ to your point, ‘and we will be willing to accept whatever the ultimate result is,'” Singleton concluded.

Mohyeldin agreed with Singleton, saying, “Yeah. And when you think of the words that are being used, ‘steal,’ you automatically think of theft, you think of robbery, and that ultimately leads people to think they should take action to defend themselves. And God knows what that might mean in this day and age with all the crazies out there.”

Many mainstream media members pinned part of the blame for the synagogue shooting on Trump and Fox News because of their use of the words “invaders” and “invasion” to describe the Central American migrant caravan heading toward the U.S. through Mexico. (Synagogue shooting suspect Robert D. Bowers used those words as well.)

Many also blamed Trump for the actions of one of his supporters, Cesar Sayoc, who mailed a string of suspicious packages with crude explosive devices to prominent Democrats and to CNN’s New York City bureau.
