How China’s Aggressive Initiative Could Prompt a ‘Dramatic Showdown’ at G20 Summit

On 'The Laura Ingraham Show,' Dr. Michael Pillsbury warned globalist policies risk unseating U.S. as leading superpower

“China want[s] to dominate every industry, and they’re on their way to doing it,” said host Laura Ingraham on “The Laura Ingraham Show” on Tuesday morning. An important guest on her radio program on Tuesday, Dr. Michael Pillsbury, added his voice to the growing chorus of experts who are sounding similar warning bells about that country’s “Made in China 2025” initiative.

“The only person who can stop it at this point is Donald Trump and his policies,” said Ingraham, detailing the economic threat the initiative represents for the United States.

“So-called globalists are quite concerned that President Trump will keep his pledge to put a 25 percent tariff on all of China’s exports,” Pillsbury said.

“It will have a huge impact on the Chinese economy if he does that,” he added — and referred to the upcoming G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as a “dramatic showdown.”

Chinese president Xi Jinping (shown above right) will also be participating in the event later this month.

Pillsbury is the Hudson Institute’s senior fellow and director of the Center for Chinese Strategy; he served as the assistant under secretary of defense during the Reagan administration. Trump has described Pillsbury as “the leading authority on China.”

Early last month, in an important speech at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C., Vice President Mike Pence said, “Now, through the ‘Made in China 2025 plan,’ the Communist Party has set its sights on controlling 90 percent of the world’s most advanced industries, including robotics, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence.”

“To win the commanding heights of the 21st century economy, Beijing has directed its bureaucrats and businesses to obtain American intellectual property — the foundation of our economic leadership — by any means necessary,” he also said about the China threat.

As Pillsbury noted on Tuesday, “We have a showdown also coming in Washington between what I would call the globalists — those who believe in the old policies toward China — and President Trump.”

Billionaires, including potential presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg, are keen on the old policies that run directly counter to Trump’s stated agenda.

This could ultimately result in China’s becoming the world’s greatest economic and military superpower.

Pillsbury cautioned that these globalist billionaires’ clever approach is to cast Xi Jinping as a reformer — and to say China will be soon be opening up wider than ever and that its state-owned enterprises will be forming new partnerships with American and other foreign companies.

Another “talking point” in globalists’ “sophisticated initiative,” he said, is to downplay technology theft and infiltration into American institutions of higher learning as a “mistake” or “misunderstanding.”

The demonization of economist Peter Navarro — currently an assistant to the president on trade and manufacturing policy — in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday offers one case in point.

Last week, Navarro said, “The DOD [Department of Defense] clearly views China as an identified threat to America’s defense industrial base. Nothing could be clearer than that in this report. But this is a very different view … that DOD and other elements of this government have than … Wall Street bankers and the globalist elite.”

Navarro’s additional use of the term “unregistered foreign agents” rankled The Journal, which has been critical of those who oppose globalism.

“They’ve already laid their bets on China,” Ingraham said of the globalist billionaire set, “and Trump is the spoiler here.”

“Trump is finally doing what any patriotic president would do, which is to stand up to the largest, biggest threat to the United States,” she added.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also said China represents the number-one threat to the U.S. at every level. Not every country agrees with that assessment, however.

On Tuesday, German officials are reportedly launching a last-ditch effort to convince German government decision-makers to consider excluding Chinese firms like Huawei from building the country’s 5G infrastructure — over concerns that doing so could compromise national security interests, Reuters reported.

Outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel is apparently unconcerned with the obvious threat such a move could present for her county, Ingraham remarked.
