In an apparent effort to promote safety and team building, a Hortonville, Wisconsin-based business has decided to give a firearm to every one of its employees for the holidays this year

BenShot, a company that sells specialty glassware embedded with bullets, bought guns for all 16 of its full-time employees to provide a “memorable” gift, one that will ideally promote personal security, as USA Today and other outlets reported.

Owner Ben Wolfgram — a gun owners himself — explained that after they took an executive-required gun safety course, employees were given the opportunity to pick out the firearm of their choosing.

Workers had a $500 limit for the purchase.

Those who didn’t reach that limit with the gun of their choosing then had the opportunity to pick out some accessories for it, including ammunition and holsters.

“They were excited. They went home and told [their] wives and husbands, and not everyone believed them. Guys want to buy guns and their wives won’t let them,” said Wolfgram, as CBS News reported.

BenShot is a father-son business that began in a garage workshop in a small village some 100 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

The 16 employees include some veterans — and well as people who have never fired a weapon.

Wolfgram expounded on the unique holiday gifts, saying the company — which is less than five years old — hasn’t done anything of this nature in the past.

“I’ve never been part of anything like this,” said employee Chelsea Priest, as USA Today reported.

The Green Bay resident explained she was fond of this year’s holiday gift — and that she feels it will both empower her and keep her safe.

At least two of the employees were initially hesitant to accept the gift, according to reports, but are now beginning to open up to the idea after taking the firearms safety course.

Employees who did not want a weapon were offered the chance to receive a gift card instead.

The culture of both the company and its customer base is one supportive of law enforcement of all kinds.

Wolfgram also told USA Today that he does not worry about workplace violence — and cites the small and tight-knit staff.

He did admit to having received some messages that “aren’t friendly.”

The business that Wolfgram started so that he could spend more time with his retired father seems to be in generally high spirits regarding its one-of-a-kind presents.

He shrugged them off by saying, “But that’s life, I guess,” as CBS News reported.

“For us, now, we have an entire armed staff. I think that’s pretty good,” Wolfgram concluded.

Twitter lit up with postings about the unusual holiday gift.
