Leftist musician Moby (pictured above right) says he is researching how to become a citizen of Canada or another country should the Democrats fail to win control of Congress in the midterms — or if Donald Trump wins re-election in 2020.
“I have to say, like everyone, I am on regular occasion Googling, ‘How do you become an expat? How do you get Canadian citizenship? What are some other countries I consider moving to?’” the musician recently told a crowd at a concert at the Los Angeles Palace Theater.
He continued, “Because if the Democrats lose the midterms and Trump wins in 2020, I’m done, because they’re doing everything in their power to erode the sort of checks and balances.”
The concert Moby was performing at was put together by Swing Left, an organization that uses technology to connect leftist politicians with motivated volunteers.
Also at the concert were musicians like Beck and Dave Grohl.
Moby is not the first person to promise to move out of the country if Democrats do not start having major victories over President Donald Trump.
Barbra Streisand recently threatened to move out of the country if the midterms don’t go the way of the Democratic Party.
Michael Moore also joked in September that he may need to move to Canada because of the content in his anti-Trump documentary, “Fahrenheit 11/9,” a film that few people even ended up paying attention to.
None of these people will follow through with their threats, of course. We saw this in 2016 when a handful of celebrities threatened to move out of America if Donald Trump won the presidency. After he actually did win, we then watched those celebrities backpedal their comments or just flat-out ignore their extreme rhetoric.
Moving out of the country is the go-to threat of celebrities when elections near. The fact that they are still oblivious to the fact that such threats mean nothing to voters shows how truly out of touch they are.
Moby has gone anti-Trump before. He previously claimed to have “proof” of collusion between Trump and Russia.
“After spending the weekend talking to friends who work in dc [sic] i can safely (well, ‘accurately’…) post the following things: 1-the russian dossier on trump is real. 100% real. he’s being blackmailed by the russian government, not just for being peed on by russian hookers, but for much more nefarious things,” the musician wrote on Instagram last year.
Even though he provided no actual proof, he asked people to simply “take him” at his word.
