“Saturday Night Live” hit a new low this weekend when cast member Pete Davidson (pictured above left) mocked Texas congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw (above right) for wearing an eye patch — and mind you, he wears that eye patch because he survived after getting hit by an IED (improvised explosive device) while serving his country as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan in 2012.
On the latest “Saturday Night Live” program, Davidson showed a picture of Crenshaw wearing his eyepatch and said, “This guy is kind of cool — Dan Crenshaw.”
The leftist comedian continued, “You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit man in a porno movie.”
He then added, “I’m sorry. I know he lost his eye in war — or whatever.”
To make matters worse, Davidson reportedly nixed a planned skit poking fun at his recent break-up with singer Ariana Grande.
A joke was made in the promo for the episode teasing the skit, but producers reportedly nixed it after Grande publicly criticized Davidson.
So, to be clear: Davidson is too afraid to engage in satire about his own life and troubles, but he’s perfectly willing to use a combat veteran as a prop in a joke that isn’t even funny.
Crenshaw has now responded to the attacks from Davidson and “SNL” with a public statement.
“Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes,” the congressional candidate tweeted on Sunday afternoon.
People did not take too well to Davidson’s lame joke on Twitter.
“Fun fact: Dan Crenshaw did three tours BEFORE losing the eye. After he lost the eye, he went back and did two more,” wrote one user in reaction.
“Totally cheap, disgusting and classless of SNL to have Pete Davidson mock Dan Crenshaw for wearing an eye patch … then giggle that he was injured in the line of duty.@DanCrenshawTX is a Navy SEAL and hero who lost his eye in an IED attack in Afghanistan,” wrote another.
Tomi Lahren of Fox News wrote, “Pete Davidson should be counting his lucky stars he will likely never be within arm’s reach of a Navy SEAL (or real man for that matter). Sick little punk.”
