Actor Michael Sheen (pictured above right) believes his breakup with comedian Sarah Silverman is due to Donald Trump’s election as president, as well as the passage of Brexit.

“After the Brexit vote, and the election where Trump became president, we both felt in different ways we wanted to get more involved,” the “Masters of Sex” actor told The Daily Telegraph in a recent interview.

Sheen continued, “That led to her doing her show ‘I Love You, America,’ and it led to me wanting to address the issues that I thought led some people to vote the way they did about Brexit, in the area I come from and others like it.”

Sheen, who is Welsh, dated Silverman for four years; the two split in December 2017.

“We both had very similar drives, and yet to act on those drives pulled us in different directions — because she is American and I’m Welsh,” the actor said.

“I felt a responsibility to do something, but it did mean coming back here, which was difficult for us because we were very important to each other. But we both acknowledge that each of us had to do what we needed to do.”

Silverman, who is fiercely anti-Trump, addressed the breakup in February and seemed to echo Sheen’s thoughts.

“The great @michaelsheen & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas. I mean, not ‘over Christmas’ — like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries & it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, ‘How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?'” she wrote on Twitter.

Celebrities have blamed Trump for everything from their weight gains to dental work — but a romantic breakup is a new one.

Despite his focus on politics, the 49-year-old Sheen continues to act.

He recently appeared in the Netflix film “Apostle,” and he will next be seen in “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle,” which will be released on Jan. 17, 2020. He will also be starring in the television series “Good Omens,” a show from acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman.

Silverman, 47, has meanwhile been hosting the leftist talk show “I Love You, America” on Hulu. Despite pitching the show as a cultural unifier that takes on both sides of political debates, the show has turned out to be just another tired anti-Trump talk show with a host who has a very myopic view of politics.
