Carl Reiner is an impressive human being.
He served his country during World War II.
He helped create such classic pieces of entertainment as “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”
He even found success in his later years by acting in projects like the “Ocean’s” trilogy with George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.
He’s lived a life fuller than most.
All of this and more is why it’s so disappointing to see the 96-year-old dedicate his golden years almost completely to politics.
“I’ve lived through the Great Depression. I served in World War II in our fight to defeat fascism. I’ve seen the invention of television and performed on television even before my family owned one,” the actor said in a recent ATTN video urging people to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.
The filmmaker said he cannot “bear to see” America “destroyed by racism, fear-mongering and lies.”
He continued, “Fortunately, there is something we can do about that. On November 6, we can vote for elected officials who will hold this president accountable.”
The most ridiculous bit from the video is the section in which Reiner says his “personal goal” is to live to 2020 so he can help vote President Donald Trump out of office.
Reiner would be 100 years old then — and he says his mission would be to “vote to make sure we have a decent, moral, law-abiding citizen in Washington who will make us all proud again to live in America.”

No disrespect to Reiner, but voting in a presidential election is a strange reason to want more years on this wonderful earth.
This is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time. He’s worked with Mel Brooks. He’s won nine Emmy Awards and one Grammy Award.
He is a father and a grandfather.
To see Trump become a primary focus of a creative mind with such rich experience is incredibly sad — Reiner is also vocal about politics on Twitter. The last thing Reiner should be getting caught up in is Trump Derangement Syndrome, but here we are. This is another example of modern politics depriving us of fun and togetherness.
Reiner is far from the only Hollywood celebrity to lose his mind over the upcoming midterms.
Barbra Streisand threatened to move to Canada if Democrats don’t have a major victory.
Actress Alyssa Milano also floated the wonderfully fun idea of skipping trick-or-treating on Halloween and instead knocking on doors and fundraising for Democrats.
These Hollywood folks are just so much fun!
