A winner has been announced for the $1.6 billion Mega Millions lottery, and the winning ticket was purchased in South Carolina, multiple outlets including Fox5 are reporting.

The billion-dollar winnings are the largest jackpot in the history of the game.

The Mega Millions jackpot had been growing since July, when a group of California office workers won $543 million.

While it costs only $2 to play the game, the odds of matching all six numbers and taking home the grand prize is just one in 302.5 million.

The winning numbers of Tuesday’s drawing are 5, 28, 62, 65 and 70, with a Mega Ball number 5, according to the official Mega Millions website.

Given the one in 302.5 million odds of winning this thing, here are a few more unusual events that are more likely to happen, according to WSPA.com:

  • Having identical quadruplets: 1 in 15 million
  • Struck by lightning: 1 in 1 million chance
  • Being dealt a royal flush in an opening hand in poker: 1 in 649,739
  • Being diagnosed with the plague: 1 in 46.6 million (unless you keep up your hygiene)
  • Hitting a hole-in-one in a golf game: professional golfers — 1 in 3,000; average golfers — 1 in 12,000
  • Becoming a professional basketball player: male high school athlete — 1 in 11,771; female high school athlete — 1 in 13,015
  • Surviving a plane crash: 1 in 2.63
  • Having a tax return audited: 1 in 123
  • Death by falling coconut: 1 in 50.7 million

The identity of the winning ticket holder was not immediately available.

It could be days or weeks, of course, before a winner comes forward — if the winner does at all.

South Carolina is one of eight states in which a winner can choose to remain anonymous, noted Fox News; the others include Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio, and Texas.

Most states require the winner’s identity to be made public.

The $1.6 billion prize reflects the annuity option, which is paid out to the winner over a period of 29 years.

The cash option — which nearly all winners take — was estimated to be $913 million.

The next Mega Millions jackpot is estimated to be worth $40 million, according to the game’s website; Mega Millions is played in 44 states along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Powerball jackpot has also been growing.

That prize is estimated to be $620 million in Wednesday’s drawing — one of the largest in the Powerball game’s history.
