It’s Friday, so it must be Mesa, Arizona, and President Donald Trump’s third Make America Great Again (MAGA) rally of the week, and four hours before the event begins, the line of people waiting to attend was already more than a quarter-mile long.

Trump is in Arizona primarily to campaign for Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), a former Air Force A-10 pilot who flew combat missions over Afghanistan. Her opponent is Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), who is a veteran of a very different kind, having been a liberal Democrat activist for many years.

The contrast between the two in terms of their precongressional careers is what the race is all about. When Sinema said she had no problem with Americans joining the Taliban in Afghanistan, McSally demanded an apology, having risked her life fighting the radical Islamic terrorist group.

The race is considered too close to call, though the Taliban controversy and McSally’s support of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has given the Republican a tiny lead over Sinema. Expect Trump to praise McSally and pound Sinema, all the while firing up what is certain to be a standing room-only crowd in the International Air Response facility near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
