President Donald Trump on Friday, calling for national unity, praised the quick work of law enforcement in arresting a man accused of sending a series of pipe bombs to prominent Democrats and to the New York City offices of CNN.

“I am pleased to inform you that law enforcement has apprehended the suspect and taken him into custody,” Trump said at the White House, drawing boisterous applause from a group of young black leaders who had gathered for a prescheduled conference.

Authorities took a Florida man named Cesar Sayoc (pictured above left) into custody.

Trump praised the “incredible job by law enforcement” in tracking down the suspect. He condemned the mailed bombs.

“These terrorizing acts are despicable and have no place in our country,” the president said.

Trump vowed to bring the 56-year-old man to “swift and certain justice” and added that he had instructed officials to spare no resource or expense to prosecute him and determine if others were involved.

“We will prosecute them, him, her — whoever it might be — to the fullest extent of the law,” said the president. “We must never allow political violence to take root in America.”

Trump praised the FBI, the Secret Service, the Department of Justice, the New York Police Department and the federal prosecutor’s office in Manhattan.

“It’s a needle in a haystack. How do you do this so quickly?” he said.

Sayoc is a registered Republican with a criminal record in Florida, The New York Times reported. His brushes with the law include arrests on charges of felony theft, drug offenses, and fraud. He also has been accused in the past of threatening to use a bomb.

None of the bombs sent out this week exploded, and no one was hurt. But the packages have caused widespread alarm. Targets include former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, and former Attorney General Eric Holder.

Former CIA Director John Brennan and Reps. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) also were sent packages, as was liberal activist billionaire George Soros.

Packages also went out to Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), actor Robert De Niro, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

The president tried to bring a badly divided country together at a time that political rhetoric is boiling just 11 days before a hotly contested midterm election.

“The bottom line is that Americans must unify,” he said.

“And we must show the world that we are united together in peace and love and harmony as fellow American citizens.”
