President Donald Trump tore into Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) during Thursday night’s Make America Great Again rally in Missoula, Montana, in support of Matt Rosendale, the Democratic incumbent’s Republican opponent.

“The Democratic Party has become too extreme to be trusted with power,” Trump said. “Their radical policies are a danger to your family and to your country. If you want to drain the swamp, you must defeat the Democrats and you must defeat Sen. Jon Tester.”

“I mean, he’s a super-liberal, how do you — I know you people, I won by a fortune of votes, many votes. I know you, you know me. So how the hell did you ever elect that guy? How did you pull that off?”

Trump blasted Tester’s record of, according to the chief executive, not defending Second Amendment gun rights, weakening enforcement of immigration laws, and voting to protect Obamacare. The National Rifle Association rates Tester’s record on gun rights as a D.

He also warned that giving the Senate to Democrats will undo the work they have done on the economy and immigration.

“And on immigration, Tester’s record can be summarized in two simple words: open borders,” Trump said. “He voted for amnesty for illegals and against the border wall on numerous occasions. He voted to let drugs in, he voted to let drugs in. That’s what you’re doing. You don’t want a wall, you don’t have a border. What you have is an infiltration of drugs like you’ve never seen. We fight so hard.”

Rosendale (pictured above right) is currently Montana’s state auditor and was previously the majority leader of the Montana state Senate. He has made veterans, illegal immigration, health care, and individuals’ Second Amendment rights the primary focuses of his campaign.

He has also positioned himself as an outsider looking to shake up politics, as Trump has done.

“Matt is a really successful guy, respected by everybody. I know people who knew him from 10 years ago, long before he ever thought of this, 20 years ago,” Trump said while introducing Rosendale. “He was just always a high-quality, really respected guy, and he’s going to be a great senator for you. He’s going to be a great senator.”

Trump acknowledged that his opposition to Tester is also personal because of the senator’s attacks on former physician to the president, Dr. Ronny Jackson, when he was nominated as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Tester accused Jackson of handing out Ambien, Provigil, and other prescription drugs around the White House, so much so that his nickname was “Candy Man.”

Trump said the Secret Service investigated the allegations and concluded it was unfounded.

“I can never forgive Tester for what he did to Dr. Ronny Jackson. What he did was just disgraceful,” Trump said. “First of all, I have a lot of respect for the man that’s running, Matt. But also I’m here because I can never forget what Jon Tester did to a man that’s of the highest quality.”

The issue of the 2018 midterm election, the president said, comes down to this: “Democrats produce mobs. Republicans produce jobs.”

Trump sounded a confident note about the November 6 election, saying, “I think we’re going to do very nicely in the Senate, I hope. I think we should pick up a few seats.”
