House Speaker Paul Ryan bashed Democrats on Monday as offering only more chaos and disorder while arguing how his tax and regulatory agenda has helped people.

“I know this approach seems fairly obvious, but it becomes more evident by the day that Democrats don’t see things this way,” Ryan said during a discussion at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. “They have made it clear: Their only response to the noise in Washington is more disorder, more chaos. Outrage has become their standard operating procedure.”

The Better Off Now agenda has been a guiding light for the speaker and his allies for the past two years. The agenda covers poverty, national security, economy, constitutional law, health care, and tax reform. Congressional Republicans have been able to accomplish several big items on the list, such as tax reform, since President Donald Trump entered office.

“Instead of offering an alternative during the debate over tax reform, they said it would lead to ‘Armageddon,” Ryan said. “Instead of welcoming or even acknowledging the benefits of tax reform, they dismissed it all as ‘crumbs.’ We want to make tax cuts for individuals and families permanent. They want to repeal tax reform and raise taxes on hardworking Americans.”

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was eventually passed despite fierce opposition from Democrats and other critics. The law lowers the tax rate for businesses and most of the seven income brackets while reducing or estimating certain tax deductions. The economy has been growing steadily since the president signed it into law on December 22.

“While we have worked to secure our borders, Democrats actually want to abolish the agency responsible for enforcing our laws and keeping us safe,” Ryan said. “And while we have worked to lower health care costs, Democrats propose to abolish our health care system as we know it. And it is the best representation of how far today’s Democratic Party has gone off the rails.”

“We want to make tax cuts for individuals and families permanent. They want to repeal tax reform and raise taxes on hardworking Americans.”

Ryan added that the Democrats’ plan to further socialize health care will be more costly and provide less quality care. He warns the Democrats’ “Medicare-for-all” plan would be too costly, at an estimated $32.6 trillion over 10 years.

“Just to put that in perspective, we could double all federal taxes, yours, mine, families, businesses, everyone’s, and still not be able to pay for this,” Ryan said. “The only way to control costs would be to ration care and restrict access to doctors and treatments. All of these decisions would be made in Washington.”

“We don’t just try to clean up the mess; we set out to build something better,” Ryan said. “So we have planted the pillars of a confident America. An economy on the move again. The best military in the world. Workers back on the path of life, communities back on the rise.”
