Kim Kardashian believes her husband, rapper Kanye West, was instrumental in helping to get Alice Marie Johnson, a nonviolent drug offender formerly serving a life sentence behind bars, released from prison.

“I do believe she would still be in prison [if not for West],” Kardashian said of Johnson Sunday night on “The Alec Baldwin Show.”

The reality star — who worked directly with President Donald Trump to get Johnson released earlier this year — says Johnson herself has said West’s support of the president is partly what helped her case get attention.

“We’ve [spoken] about this a few times. Alice always says if it wasn’t for Kanye speaking up in support of Trump, then she would still be in jail,” Kardashian, 38, said.

Kardashian visited the White House over the summer and discussed prison reform and Johnson’s case with the president. Johnson was a first-time offender when she was arrested.

She had served almost 22 years of her life sentence before being released.

Kardashian also opened up about how her husband’s politics differed from her own.

“I let him [West] be who he wants to be,” she said. “I let him have his own views and opinions, even if they’re different than mine. I grew up in a household where … we would always just talk about it and be open about it and it was really OK to have different views. For me, I think it’s just about having an open mind.”

The reality star said when she and West disagree, they will have private discussions to understand each other’s perspectives.

Of her own beliefs, Kardashian said she looks for causes like Johnson’s to get behind and become passionate about.

“I’ll find something that I believe in, and I’ve figured out how to use my voice,” she said. “The bigger goal is to get these bills passed that really change the laws to make the distinction between crack and cocaine completely separate, and just getting people out [of prison].”

Kardashian and West share three children; they married in 2014.

West, 41, recently visited the White House and discussed prison reform and mental health treatment with President Trump.

Alec Baldwin’s talk show has not exactly been a ratings winner for ABC, but it is good to see the leftist actually allowing someone with views different from his own come onto his show and articulate those thoughts.
