Former President Barack Obama included self-described Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a second round of endorsements ahead of the 2018 midterm elections via a Monday afternoon tweet.

This newest round of endorsements comes two months after Obama released a first selection of candidates.

“Today, I’m proud to endorse even more Democratic candidates who aren’t just running against something, but for something — to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore dignity, honor, and compassion to public service,” Obama tweeted on Monday, October 1.

He added, “They deserve your vote.”

In addition to Obama, other endorsers of the New York upstart’s campaign include MoveOn; The People for Bernie; 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU, the largest property service union in the country); and New York state’s AFL-CIO, a 2.5 million-member trade union federation, according to the Ocasio-Cortez website.

As of about 2:15 p.m. on Monday, Ocasio-Cortez (pictured above, left) had not responded by tweet on her page acknowledging the endorsement.

Her most recent, non-pinned entry on the social media platform was a retweeted photo of herself speaking at an anti-Judge Brett Kavanaugh rally in Boston.

Though she ran on the Democratic ticket in her district race in the Bronx, New York, she has been adamant in describing herself as a “Democratic socialist.” Indeed, the policies she has proposed are aptly described as following a frank socialist agenda.

Among the planks of her platform are Medicare for All, higher education and/or trade school for all, a federal jobs guarantee, and the abolishment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Ocasio-Cortez’s statements have been met with a number of cringes and raised eyebrows on both sides of the aisle, to put it mildly.

Earlier this month, the 28-year-old Boston University grad ascribed the Hurricane Maria crisis to climate change and the “colonial relationship that the United States has with Puerto Rico.”

She later doubled down on her contention that Puerto Rico is “still a colony” of the United States.

Puerto Rico, of course, is a territory of the United States — not a colony — and Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens.

In a decidedly unique approach to basic math, the New York 14th District Democrat announced that the $40 trillion price tag of her proposed initiatives would ultimately result in savings.

Even CNN’s Jake Tapper couldn’t let that one go when the progressive upstart failed to map out even a vague explanation for how she would come up with the remaining $38 trillion to fund the programs beyond the $2 trillion raised via her proposed tax increase.

Notably absent on Obama’s list of endorsed candidates, by the way, is Democrat Beto O’Rourke.

O’Rourke is challenging Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his seat in the U.S. Senate.
