It was reported on Friday that Twitter has unlocked conservative pro-life website LifeSiteNews’ social media account less than 24 hours after blocking it from the platform for “claiming a factual analysis of homosexual health data was ‘hateful conduct,'” according to the site.

“Their decision to unlock our account comes after more than 7,500 LifeSite supporters signed a petition demanding our account be restored along with massive backlash online,” the website shared.

It was a different story on Thursday —  the website posted then,“Twitter has just locked LifeSiteNews out of our Twitter account over an article we posted four years ago that provided expert analysis on the rise in sexually-transmitted diseases among homosexuals.”

LifeSiteNews says it received the following message, notifying its staff that Twitter was locking the account because the 2014 tweet sharing the story’s headline violated their “rules against hateful conduct,” and “promote[d] violence against, threaten[ed], or harass[ed] other people on the basis of […] sexual orientation […], or serious disease.”

The article in question was titled, “Why HIV, Syphilis, and Gonorrhea are Rising Among Homosexuals.”

The article argued that the rise in STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) among homosexual men was due to a spike in unprotected sex, further aided by the fact that infected individuals were not telling their sexual partners about their illness.

The author “cited data from mainstream sources such as the CDC [Centers for Disease Control], a then-recent New York Times report, and a 2006 study in the journal AIDS Behavior,” noted LifeSiteNews.

“The only recourse offered was for LifeSite to remove the tweet or start an appeal process,” reported the outlet of the Twitter ban. “For the moment, LifeSite staff cannot post to or otherwise operate @LifeSite in any way.”

The social media ban represents “total intolerance” in line with Silicon Valley’s “totalitarian mindset,” wrote Steve Jalsevec, LifeSiteNews’ president and co-founder, on the site.

“This total intolerance for even reporting government health dept. statistics that reveal the health dangers of homosexual activity betrays what Peter Thiel, himself a homosexual, previously called a totalitarian mindset in Silicon Valley,” continued Jalsevac. “Twitter is now trying to force news agencies to report only what is acceptable to their personal, biased views and shutting down balanced, factual reporting on the homosexual issue.”

“This is getting dangerous for our democracy since a free press is one of the basic and necessary foundations for a genuinely democratic society,” Jalsevac continued. “This is getting scary. It is in everyone’s interest to fight this type of action and even demand government intervention to protect our rights.”

Although it took issue with the LifeSiteNews article, the social media company announced this week it would not be banning Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan for a tweet in which he compared Jews to termites, as The Daily Wire and other outlets reported.

“I’m not an anti-Semite. I’m anti-Termite,” his outrageous tweet read; that tweet has not been blocked.
