Check Out This ‘Giant’ Texas Spider Walking Toward Police Officer (Yikes!)

Halloween seems to be early this year — at least in Fulchear, Texas, where a “giant” spider (pictured above left) seemed to walk toward an unsuspecting police officer during a routine traffic stop (see the creature in the video, below).

Caught on the officer’s police vehicle dashcam, the “oversized” arachnid creeps stealthily up behind the unsuspecting officer, and one might first think it’s a Halloween prank — it is the spooky season, after all.

The 30-second clip, posted to Facebook by the Fulshear, Texas, police department, appears to show a massive creature “emerging from a grassy roadside area” and “scampering over to an oblivious cop,” noted the New York Post.

Turns out it was a real spider — and not even a large one, at that. The little fellow happened to cross the police car’s windshield at the right time, and the dashcam caught it at just the perfect angle — creating an optical illusion, according to the Fulshear police department.

“Who needs Hollywood special effects?” the fun-loving police department posted to Facebook. “This little guy was positioned perfectly on the windshield of the patrol car and gave our clerk, who was reviewing the video, quite the ‘Halloween scare.'”

One commenter was quick to dismiss the video as a fake.

“That spider is on a flat horizontal surface!!” the commenter wrote. “If it was on the windshield you’d see the underside of the spider!!”

“We promise you it is real,” cops responded. “Not ‘fake news.’”

They added, “Although, we admit, it does look fake. On a large monitor, it’s easier to tell he is walking on the windshield.”

Another commenter posted, “Worst nightmare EVER!”

Another loved the optical illusion, posting, “This is too adorable! I loved it. Thank you for the much-needed giggle today!”

You never can tell how people are going to react to even the friendliest of creatures; recently, one Puget Sound, Washington, boating party gave new meaning to the word “emergency.”

The group was floating in a craft on the Pacific Ocean when they saw some whales doing — well, what whales do — rolling lazily, swimming around the boat, and floating in the water, which is, after all, their home.

Instead of marveling at the miracle they were experiencing — getting that close to giant sea mammals that many only hope to see on chartered whale watches — they freaked out and called the police.

One person on the boat can be heard hyperventilating while another is heard yelling, “Don’t start the motor!”
