Democrats “should be very concerned about” their midterm election chances now because the latest Central American migrant caravan headed toward the U.S. “plays perfectly into” President Donald Trump’s and other Republicans’ hands, former Democratic Senate aide Chris Hahn warned Monday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

“I think that this current wave of immigration plays perfectly into the Republicans’ hands coming at the closing days of the midterms. In fact, they should be taken very seriously and could alter it,” said Hahn, a former aide to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

“It weakens our chance of taking the Senate because it mobilizes and energizes the Trump base. This is their number-one issue,” he lamented. “This couldn’t have been scripted better for Republicans … if they’d planned it or something. This is something that Democrats should be very concerned about.”

An estimated 5,000 to 7,000 migrants from Central American countries stopped temporarily at Mexico’s border with Guatemala, but then overwhelmed authorities and continued north, hoping ultimately to make it to the United States.

Trump declared the situation a “national emergency” on Monday and insisted on Twitter that the U.S. “will now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing” the foreign aid given to Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador because they “were not able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S.”

“Every time you see a Caravan, or people illegally coming, or attempting to come, into our Country illegally, think of and blame the Democrats for not giving us the votes to change our pathetic Immigration Laws! Remember the Midterms! So unfair to those who come in legally,” he tweeted.

“At stake in this Election is whether we continue the extraordinary prosperity we have achieved — or whether we let the Radical Democrat Mob take a giant wrecking ball to our Country and our Economy! #JobsNotMobs,” Trump added Monday evening. “Today’s Democrat Party would rather protect criminal aliens than AMERICAN CITIZENS — which is why the Democrats must be voted OUT of OFFICE!”

David Bossie, who was Trump’s deputy campaign manager in 2016, told Fox News host Laura Ingraham, “I believe that Donald Trump talking about common-sense issues and common-sense solutions really has an edge here” ahead of the November 6 midterm election.

“I do think this is a dogfight for the House right down to the last seat, and I think we pick up several in the Senate now, where it was going to be one or two pickups. Now I think it’s three or four net pickups in the Senate,” he noted.

Both Bossie and Hahn acknowledged that the sheer number of migrants in the caravan and the photos and videos that surfaced of them marching ignited the GOP base. And Art del Cueto, the president of the U.S. Border Patrol union in Tucson, Arizona, told Ingraham that this is because “these individuals are not immigrants.”

“These are people that are invading our country. My family, my ancestors, are immigrants,” said del Cueto, who is Hispanic. “These people are trying to enter the United States by force.”

“When you are kicking down gates to get into a country, when you are entering illegally, when you are trying to avoid inspection and also when you are waving the flag of the country that supposedly has you so oppressed — how is that something that’s beneficial for the United States?” he asked. “It isn’t.”

Del Cueto warned the caravan’s mass influx of attempted illegal immigration “needs to stop, and we need to do the right measures to go out there and stop it.”

“This is a humongous problem,” he said. “These are not immigrants entering our country. These are individuals that are invading our country and something needs to be done about it.”
