Rapper Kanye West sparked conversation on both sides of the political aisle over the weekend (and beyond) after wearing a Make America Great Again hat while performing on “Saturday Night Live.”

Though the program is one of the most liberal and anti-Trump on television, West defended both the president and conservatives in front of the live audience.

“The blacks weren’t always Democrats. You know, it’s like the plan they did, to take the fathers out [of] the home and put them on welfare. Does anybody know about that? That’s a Democratic plan,” West said in his final performance of the night.

“There’s so many times I talk to, like, a white person about this and they say, ‘How could you like Trump? He’s racist.’ Well, uh, if I was concerned about racism I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago.”

He later said about Trump, “Thank y’all for giving me this platform. I know some of y’all don’t agree, but y’all be going at that man’s [Donald Trump] neck a lot, and I don’t think it’s actually that helpful.”

Candace Owens, a conservative commentator and director of communications for Turning Point USA, appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Monday morning and praised West as “one of the bravest men in America” for his “SNL” appearance.

“The Left has declared war on our American values, and Kanye is fighting the cultural front,” she said.

“What Kanye is doing is unbelievably brave,” Owens added, “to stand up to the mob, to put on a MAGA hat, and to say, ‘I support this president.'”

West’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live” earned praise from many other prominent conservatives, such as Nick Searcy and Joy Villa.

Searcy, who directed the upcoming film “Gosnell,” called the move by West “genius” on Twitter.

Villa said she loved the right-leaning rapper and reposted part of West’s speech from the show.

The president even had positive things to say about the rapper on Twitter.

“Like many, I don’t watch ‘Saturday Night Live’ (even though I [in the] past hosted it) — no longer funny, no talent or charm. It is just a political ad for the Dems. Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told ‘no’), was great. He’s leading the charge!”

In a video captured by comedian Chris Rock, West spoke to the “SNL” live audience and revealed he was “bullied” behind the scenes and told not to wear his Make America Great Again hat.

He obviously refused to bow to pressure, and he called the hat his “Superman cape.” The political speech in whih West praised the president did not make it into the airing of the actual episode.

Candace Owens previously called West a “true artist” for daring to express his views in the unfriendliest of venues.

“You consider yourself an artist? What boundaries have you pushed? Mocking Trump is not pushing a boundary. Mocking republicans is not pushing a boundary. The world will remember @kanyewest. The world always remember[s] true artists,” she wrote on Twitter over the weekend.
