Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together, Kensington Palace confirmed Monday via Twitter.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.

“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” their statement continued.

“Victoria” has landed at the top of the bookies’ odds on names, while “James” is leading the way for the boys, notes the U.K.’s Mirror.

Harry’s brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, are “delighted” for the couple — as are Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the palace says.

Meghan Markle had her 12-week scan and is “feeling well,” a royal source told People magazine.

The royal couple married on May 19, having begun dating in July 2016 after meeting on a blind date.

The expectant couple is currently in Australia for their first royal tour together, landing in Sydney, Australia, early Monday.

Senior members of the royal family attended Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding last Friday, when the couple reportedly told the family of their happy news; Princess Eugenie is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York.

Public speculation about a possible pregnancy began after Markle was spotted wearing a loose-fitting navy coat to the nuptials.

The newest royal will be a cousin to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, Prince George, age five; Princess Charlotte, age three; and baby Prince Louis, six months old.

“Of course,” Prince Harry said when asked about baby plans after the pair got engaged. “You know, one step at a time. Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”

Prince Harry has plenty of experience being around children as an uncle to William’s three children. On his wedding day, both he and Markle were “captivated by the youngest members of their wedding party,” noted People.

“They wanted to see their family and see the kids and be together,” Markle’s longtime friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin told that publication. “So, when it was time to take a photo, it was really easy and harmonious and joyful, and Harry was playing with the kids.”
