The halftime performers for next year’s Super Bowl will be Maroon 5.

The band, headed by “The Voice” star Adam Levine, will take the stage at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in February of next year.

Past halftime performers include Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, and Bruno Mars.

Many of Maroon 5’s songs include a variety of guest performers such as Cardi B (“Girls Like You”) and Kendrick Lamar (“Don’t Wanna Know”), so it is likely that the band will be bringing plenty of surprise guests to the stage next year.

The reaction to Maroon 5 scoring the gig, however, has been mixed on social media. Many have expressed disappointment in the band’s selection since so many artists are actually from Atlanta and could better represent the city.

“Outcast, Usher, Ludicrous, T.I, Migos, Yeezy, Lil Jon are ATL originals and we get Maroon 5?” wrote one Twitter user.

Another said, “I’m excited about Maroon 5 in Atlanta. Now excuse me while I head to New Orleans to eat at Applebee’s.”

Yet another said, “The NFL could’ve had the greatest Dirty South concert ever with Outkast, Ludacris, 2 Chainz, Future, Lil’ Jon, T.I., Jeezy, & Gucci Mane all being from Atlanta, but instead they went with……..Maroon 5 for the Super Bowl. What are we even doing?”

Comedian Brad Williams chimed in and joked, “People are surprised that Maroon 5 is playing the Super Bowl. I’m more amazed by the fact that apparently EVERY OTHER BAND was already booked that day.”

Other reactions were just as biting.

A big question going into the next Super Bowl will be how political the event will be. Players continue to kneel for the national anthem, and ratings continue to decline for the NFL. The controversial sports league needs to worry about bringing viewers back and winning the trust of its audience again; otherwise, this next Super Bowl will likely be the least-watched ever.

Maroon 5 is best known for songs such as “This Love” and “She Will Be Loved.” They originated in Los Angeles and have three Grammy Awards to their name, including Best New Artist from 2005. They went on to win Grammy Awards in 2006 and 2008 for “This Love” and “Makes Me Wonder.”
