‘The View’ Ladies Are Unanimous: Kavanaugh’s Accuser Should Testify

ABC News’ “The View” liberal and conservative co-hosts alike unanimously agreed on Thursday that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser “has to testify” before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary next week because her story “needs to be heard under oath.”

“[Christine Blasey Ford] has to testify. Her story needs to be heard. It needs to be heard under oath,” co-host Sunny Hostin (pictured above right) said.

“And I hope that after it’s heard, if she testifies, that this committee will have the spirit … to subpoena the other witnesses that were there.”

Co-host Joy Behar (above, second from right) said she believes the senators and Ford are “playing chicken” and “running out the clock” to see “who’s going to get their way.”

“And obviously the Senate Judiciary Committee has the most power, so they will probably win this one and then she’ll either have to testify or say no,” Behar added. “I think she should do it. She already said I want to do it for the country. Well, she’s going to have to because they are not going to budge.”

Conservative co-host Abby Huntsman (second from left) agreed, saying, “I think she needs to speak. And if she doesn’t, she might regret that for the rest of her life because she’s lived with this for what, 37 years?”

“The country wants to hear from her. I believe that our lawmakers want to hear from her,” Huntsman added. “And I don’t think — I think if Republicans go through with the vote and they don’t hear from her, his nomination will be tainted forever.”

Even co-host Whoopi Goldberg (above left) called upon Ford to testify, saying, “I would like her to testify because I want her to dignify the 900 alumni who wrote from her school, you know, 900 women from the time she was in school to 2018, they said, you know, ‘We believe Dr. Blasey Ford. We’re grateful that she came forward.'”

Ford threw the final days of Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation process into chaos when she publicly accused him this past Sunday of sexually assaulting her some 36 years ago at a party in Maryland, when they were both teens in high school.

Kavanaugh promptly denied Ford’s accusations “categorically and unequivocally,” claiming that he has “never done anything like what the accuser describes — to her or to anyone.”

Although President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee agreed to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 24, Ford is now refusing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee — despite her lawyers’ previous insistence that Ford was ready to cooperate and willing to testify.

Ford now says she won’t endure an “interrogation” about her sexual assault accusations against Kavanaugh until the FBI conducts a “full investigation,” her lawyers revealed Tuesday. But Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said Wednesday he’d give Ford only until Friday to agree to testify.

Although “The View” co-hosts unanimously agreed Ford should relent and testify, they complained about the committee’s “rush” to install Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court and its insistence that an FBI investigation is inappropriate and unnecessary.

“A lifetime appointment. You can’t rush it. It will get rushed, because I’m sure they’ve got the votes,” Goldberg lamented. “And even if they didn’t, many of the responses from the men on this Judiciary Committee, I thought after all — after #MeToo — [they] still have the same mindset.”

Hostin argued, “What’s the message to women in this country if they don’t look into this? Is it, it just doesn’t matter, a sexual assault doesn’t matter, women’s feelings don’t matter?”

Behar bemoaned how “really scary and sad” it is that Kavanaugh “will pass probably” because senators will “just go to their corners and say, ‘Well, I believe him and I don’t believe her.'”

Behar accused more moderate Republican senators like Susan Collins (R-Maine) whom “we’re relying on” of “backing off” from their concerns about the accusations against Kavanaugh in light of Ford’s continued refusal to testify.

“But my feeling is the tragedy of it, he’s tainted,” Behar added. “He still will be sitting on the court deciding whether women can get abortions, whether they’re in charge of their bodies, or are men in charge of our bodies. That is the really bottom line of this, and he will still have that power, and that makes me mad.”

Hostin moved at the conclusion of the segment to note that Kavanaugh “has denied the allegations” before Goldberg interrupted her, asking, “Are we going to read this same statement every day? We know he denies it. We know he’s denied it. Do we have to read this every day?”

“We do, in terms of trying to give both sides,” Hostin insisted.
