Think you’ve read, seen and heard everything there is to read, see and hear about the nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, 53, to the country’s highest court?

Think you’ve heard all the evidence, every bit of it, and weighed all of the statements and positions and arguments and commentary — not just on Thursday (in live testimony before millions of people) from California psychologist Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as well as the nominee, Judge Kavanaugh, himself — but well before that and since that, too?

Think you’ve exhausted every possible piece of news or commentary on this complicated and concerning issue?

Then read this tweet by one person on Friday.

Read this tweet as some people foolishly posit the idea that Kavanaugh might consider withdrawing his name from consideration for the Supreme Court — people who don’t know Kavanaugh very well, or his record, or his character, or his fierce dedication to the task at hand and his devotion to the rule of law in this country (including having his name and reputation restored after a horrendous nomination and evaluation process ever since President Donald Trump nominated him on July 9).

Read this tweet as people debate what might happen should the FBI investigate Kavanaugh even further in the days ahead, in a short and confined period of time, as Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are asking for as of Friday afternoon.

For the record, the FBI has already done multiple checks of Brett Kavanaugh’s background — he’s been the subject of six background investigations.

The commenter, in his tweet, was responding to someone who said, “He is not entitled to that job. He can do the right thing and withdraw at any time.”

And then came this tweet.

“Why should he withdraw? I’m a Democrat and it honestly sounds silly that he is being roasted over an allegation. If the courts prove it, then he should withdraw — but he shouldn’t pull out because of the court of the public.”

Sure, it’s one tweet in a vast Twittersphere.

And everyone loves to weigh in.

But there is much wisdom in such a commonsensical statement.

Now, reaction to that piece of common sense included this commentary: “Thank you for looking at this objectively … Most people seem to have trouble doing that. Good on you, sir. Have a great weekend!”

As Republicans have pointed out repeatedly, Kavanaugh has been thoroughly reviewed many times.

And naturally — what did you expect? —  it included this: “You’re absolutely correct, that’s why they should let the FBI investigate before he [Kavanaugh] is voted into a lifetime appointment.”

As Republicans have pointed out repeatedly, Kavanaugh has been thoroughly reviewed many times — and one mere allegation out of left field, about something that is alleged to have occurred some 36 years ago, with absolutely no corroborating evidence, is hardly enough reason for a new investigation.
